All four of my children attended Hendersonville High. It is a really good high school and a great college prep school.
HHS is not just a school but a real family. Everybody is so spirited and full of life. I am so proud to be an alumnist.
I love my school! HHS is a very open school with a very diverse crowd of people. It seems like we have a club or something that intrests everyone. I play three sports for the school and take 3 honors classes. School is hard work but I believe HHS prepares you to be ready for the reality ahead.
The academic stride for excellence overshadows the delapidated condition HHS. The lame attempt to get the mentally, and physically handicapped children to clean the school is nothing more than a joke. As I close out my final of four years at Hendersonville I find that my education is very lacking. I was taught only what is required by state-mandated tests, leaving no room for personal exploration. Sure there are twenty-two clubs to join, but those clubs have the same 'top notch' students in them. There is a blatent lack of electives to choose from, leaving many people to question the variety of occupations. Hendersonville gives the image that only the top ten percent of each class are the role model students, when in reality those students just pressure themselves more and more to be better than the others and do not focus on who they are as an individual.
My son is a student at HHS. He has gone to many schools but HHS is the one he has felt most at home in. He is in the band which is a great program in the school with great success. However, I find the overall standard of teachers has obviously fallen.
I'm a junior at HHS, and I would have to say that hendersonville is an excellent school. Our EOC's are the best in the county and our athletics are amazing, we have I believe 22 state champion teams. Our teachers are some of the best in the state. If you are moving to Hendersonville, make sure you send your children the HHS. We also have 22 clubs at our school for all kinds of things!
I'm not a parent, but I'm a sophomore here at HHS. I love this school more than any other I have attended. The classes accommodate for nearly every course of study and the teachers really care about the students. Sure, every school has its problems, but no school is perfect! Since there aren't nearly as many students here as in, say, TC Roberson, so the students get the specific tutoring and help that they need. I'm very glad I'm going here because of what they can offer for me and my aspirations to be a veterinarian. Mr. Wilkins, the principal, is wonderful at what he does. Just check it out- I know you'll love it here!
This once excellent high school is going straight down the tubes. The pursuit of academic excellence is taking a back seat to sports and the current principal is over-seeing a slouching towards mediocrity that should have the alumni association up in arms. Weak math and science programs combined with floundering language arts and social studies make this a school I would not recommend.
If you were not raised in Hendersonville do not send you children to this school. HHS is very clicky and there is a double standard with 'legacy kids' receiving preferential treatment in everything from class choice & academics to the arts & sports. The principle is himself a 'legacy' and bows to the will of 'legacy' parents. He is ineffective at best. There are a few good teachers teaching honor courses (most legacy students seem to qualify), but, for students not eligable at honor level - the quality of education is substandard.
The principle at this school is EXCELLENT. He helps to maintain a disciplined, organized and enriched learning environment. He runs a 'tight ship'.
