Having been a parent of 2 children that have attended this school I am pleased with the teaching and overall quality of their education. The administration is mediocre and they definitely ride the coat tails of the overall excellent quality of the staff who work there. The sports program is very good and now that the system has cleaned out some bad coaching apples the program is an excellent addition to the curriculum and high school experience.
I believe the teachers are very caring, and committed to the overall well being of the students. However, we were quite disappointed in the first two years with the guidance department (subsequent years were greatly improved), the overall dismissive attitude of issues in regards to children with needs (i.e. 504 plans) resulting in students 'falling through the cracks', and the perhaps that has something to do with the higher rate of drop outs than the national average. Also disappointed with the lack of communication, and lapses within the IB program. If an parent is not vigilant, than this can happen more frequently ('droppiing through the cracks' and other issues). If a child is a strong learner/high achiever with no learning disabilities this school is great. The teachers really are exceptional.
I was fortunate to be a charter member of Cedar Ridge High School in 2002, and now in our eighth year, I am proud of the gains we have made as a Professional Learning Community. Di Anna C. Kruse Media Specialist Cedar Ridge High School Hillsborough, NC 27278

As a parent of a CRHS junior, I have always been very impressed by the level of commitment to the students' 'academic well being' from the faculty members at this school. Having a successful International Bacculareaute Program at CRHS has proved to be the best one of the two that are offered in the Durham & Orange County areas. There is a good variety of academic programs available for students of different socio-economic backgrounds to choose from. Along with that are varied sports programs which include,(but is not limited to )lacrosse, swimming, tennis, etc. The CRHS Band has won honors and awards with it's own band director honored in the NC Central District as band director of the year. The CRHS Choral Music Department is also multi-award winning. This success at CRHS is due to strong parental involvement, highly qualified teachers and strong leadership from the administration. We are blessed!
I have been very impressed with the level of concern and committment from the administrators, office personel and the teachers. Although, my child did experience one major issue with the guidance dept. making a very large mistake , overall this school is caring, creative and truly committed to young people's education and everyday that I ask my child what she did, I feel lucky to have found this school. Thank you all at Cedar Ridge. It is quite obvious that you really care and this means everything to me and it should to all parents.
Many of the teachers are exceptional; however, unless your child is labeled an 'exceptional student' and is in the IBH program - they will not benefit. Thus, the other teachers are often below average and do not stimulate the students to excel. The drop-out rate at Cedar Ridge High is higher than the national average.
