I know that our school is above average next to other schools in Onslow County. Yes there is room for improvement, but at least our kids are safe and we don't have the drug problems that other schools have. I feel proud to be a part of the Dixon Community. Our fan club and family support is awesome. If there is so much wrong with our school there needs to be more parent involvement. Voice concerns instead of tearing down our schools.
I find Dixon High School to be a step from a majority of the other schools in Onslow County. For one thing, the school's size is ideal for anyone who wants actual assistance from a teacher, not just to be another person. Dixon also has a number of outstanding teachers. The fact that these teachers are actually connecting with the students and not just giving them work and telling them to have at it, shows how dedicated to their profession they are. The extra-curricular activities at Dixon are also amazing. There are a number of academic organizations, and a lot of these assist in preparing you for a future career. The athletics at the school are better than most people would think as well. The football and basketball teams have improved dramatically. Other sports are also important to the school. The cheerleaders are even going to the National competition this year.
It's a high school with a few good teachers, a few bad ones, and a lot of average ones. From what I have seen and heard, I find the most fault with the county and not the school administration itself. You are not going to find much better until you leave Onslow.
Administrators are only concerned with EOG test as that dictates where the school lies in the county. Ranking equals money so I encourage each of you to take a look at the campus and you will figure out where the school ranks. Encourage all of you to look at the schools report card in comparison to others the county. Teachers aren't allowed to teach to their full potential because student's aren't allowed to fail. Failure takes dollars from the mouths of the administrators. I don't fault the teachers, or the students, it's the rules that govern them. No accountability is placed upon the student who fails to include the parent that governs them. No accountabolity lies with the administrator.
My child is a new to dixon high. I am completely appauled that there arent any text books. without books I dont care how god the teachers are. It appears as if the kids are being thrown thru school, not learning anything and unable to attend a good college upon graduation.
believe Dixon is a great school. The teachers there are amazing and really get to the student's academic level to teach efficiently. The AP courses ARE year round so there is adequate knowledge achieved. Fine scholars graduate. I graduated with a Morehead-Cain Scholar and a plethora of other students who also obtained scholarships. The athletics are great. The boys football and basketball team are beginning to improve but all the other teams are EXCELLENT! Quite a few state championship teams on both ends (female and male). If your child plays soccer, then this is the school. Both boys and girls have won state champinships in (boys 06, girls 08). The administration is excellent. I'd rate Dixon a 15 on a ten-point scale!!
I only have great things to say. This school we be good to you if you are an active parent. Teachers/Princapal/Coaches are excellent at parent commuication. Many sports for teens. This school is very close knit you child is not just a number here. Teachers really care and you can tell. I truly belive my daughter will have many scholarship offers. The school is under construction right now, could use some renovations. I rather have a safe, caring school with great teachers than a new school with cold teacher that could care less. Lots of great active parents. Its cool for kids to know your parents at this school. Lots of small town fun. My daughter would not want to go to another school. Go Bulldogs !!!
I have nothing posotive to say about this school. The curriculum is terrible, there is no discipline, no structure and I do not feel that any of the teachers care very much about the success of their students. This school lacks motivation. Get the students excited about learning.
I love this school. Most of the teachers are amazing with a few exceptions but the AP Classes could be improved. They need to be year long for the students to recieve the knowledge they need for the AP test. To all students, parents and teachers call and complain to the county office about the no food or drink policy. Students sometimes need a snack between breakfast and lunch especialy when lunch is only 25 min. long and served at 1:00. Speaking of lunch, the lunch ladies here are as nice as they could be. They really care about the students they serve everyday. The lunches are too short and most student have and average of 7 minutes to each after they recieve their food. This problem could be solved it the extra time that was given to Seminar was given to luches.
We live on the Southwest/Dixon boundary. Therefore my kids started at Southwest and then moved to Dixon for middle/high school. Originally I was upset by this but now I'm so happy that they ended up at Dixon. Both of my kids have excelled. Of course, there is always room for improvement as with any school! Scheduling issues have been easily adjusted. Kids will get out of what they put in to their school ... no matter which school it is!!
