I LOVE this school!! This is my daughters first year of Kindergarten and it has been wonderful. Her teacher is excellent and the school is very big on volunteering, so I am able to volunteer in her class every morning. I was worried about it being a TItle 1 school, but that hasn't bothered me one bit. The principal is excellent as well and I feel my daughter is gettting as good an education here as any other public school. It has been a wonderful experience and I am sad we have to move this summer. I would recommend Dixon to anyone looking at moving to the Jacksonville area.
This is one of the best schools that my daughter has attended in her entire 6 years of elementary school! (this was her 4th elementary school) The teachers and all of the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. With this school being in a county with a large demographic of military families (us for example) you would think that they would just push the student along and work with "what they have". But, no! My daughter excelled here more than any other school and made lots of quality friends and had exceptional teachers. There was plenty of parent/family involvement, teachers and staff were always available for conference and I never saw or head of any bullying teachers or discipline problems. My ONLY complaint would be the lack of "fun" field trips...but that should be blamed on the poor economy not the school. Overall?....FABULOUS experience!
the teachers leave a lot to be desired regarding the fair and just treatment of the students. It is ridiculous the way the staff behaves. It is hard to tell who it the child and who is the adult sometimes. The teaching staff also uses bully tactics on a regular basis as their excuse for discipline
I love this school!! My children are the fourth generation in our family to attend Dixon Schools. I feel fortunate that they go to this school. The teachers are very helpful to my children, and their classmates are kind. Dixon Elementary feels like home to my kids and myself.
My daughter just started kindergarten here last week and I'm very impressed so far. Everything is very organized and the staff is very kind and helpful. I was worried from seeing some reviews that the school would not be very good but my first impressions are great! I'm new to the area and have also heard very good things from families that have children that attend Dixon and have for several years.
This school is not good at all. I try to get involved with my sons education because he is special nees. I end up teaching him at home every night after school because he learns nothing at school. The teachers try to push you away if you want to ask questions, or get involved. The school is not the parent, I am. I want to be able to know whats going on and yet they want me to drop him off, pick him up and the hours he is at school they dont want me involved at all. Im very dissapointed. My kids have attended four years now and each year is worse.
My children have attended Dixon Elementary for the past three years, and we have had a great experience there. My daughter excels in school, and she was still challenged by her teachers. My son is on the other end of the spectrum and has struggled with both reading and math. His teachers have been very responsive and helpful, and the reading specialist and special education teachers have been wonderful with him. His reading scores have already increased by one grade level, and he is doing much better in math. The teachers are dedicated and knowledgeable. They do expect, however, that students live up to their responsibilities--completing homework and projects and studying for tests.
The administrators at this school were horific. I couldn't wait to get my kids out! Kids bullied others and the administration denied the offenses. I head lots of yelling (frustrated) teachers as I walked through the hallways. Teahcers were not happy with the administors as well as parents.
I feel that the teachers are pusing along alot of the children who need help. When I go to talk to his teachers or even the counsler I feel like I am bothering them and they don't want to hear what I have to say. Teachers complain that parents are not involved but when one does get involved it is a bother to them. There are some teachers that are all for the kids and will listen to the parents but that is rare. There needs to be more comunication with the parents.
I also agree school does not involve parents or want parents to get involved. The classes are overcrowded and the lack of supervision in the school is horrid. I have walked the halls on several occasions with no teachers, ect to be found but kids hitting and pushing each other and nobody around to see it.
