I disagree, I think the new Principal has done a great job. He has gotten the school under control. He is also very sympathetic My family was dealing with a tough family situation and he listened to us and was very compassionate and still personally checks up on my son. I am so happy my son is a tiger with such a caring principal.
If I had the choice to give 0 stars I would. South View High School is number one for criminal activity in all public schools in Cumberland county. I do not suggest you put your child in this school. My son has been going to SVHS for two years (Thankfully this is his senior year), and has been threatened by students who are affiliated in the crip gang. His car has been vandalized multiple times, and he is afraid of going to school. The new principle has no idea what he is doing. The guidance department cannot do their job correctly. Even though the school does have the IB program, I would much rather my son go to a school where he and I do not fear that his safety is in danger.
I graduated in 09 in the honors and AP program. Only in those classes did I feel like was a focus on education and not behavior problem. My brother went there and we had many problems with the school. The teachers ignored his learning problems and the principal even told him to only come for his first period class then leave! After being held back 2 years in a row my brother dropped out(filling out paperwork and everything). A year and a half later South View called us and asked why he never came to school. Unless you're in sport or in the IB(which constantly has problems with cheating that is never addressed) you're just another nameless face.
South View is one of the best schools in the county & that's really not all that great considering the other schools. I go to a school where athletes get special treatment & regular students get below average education. Some teachers at South View are there to educate us, but there is a whole lot there just to get the check. Unless you get in honors/AP classes your education always come second to behavior problems. I started taking honors classes my sophmore year, & i was baffled at how the teachers actually TAUGHT us and was more intrested in us understanding the curriculum. Our prinicipal isn't really that involved in our school experience unless you are an athlete. The school is very bias. Besides education, there is no fun what so ever. Besides the 2 pep rallies we get a year (which aren' treally fun) there is nothing to be excited about. If you're not in band, football, track, or basketball your highschool experience is not going to be what you wanted it to be. Basically, unless you want your child to get a fair education put them in honors/AP classes, & if you want to experience high school in a fun way don't come.
GREAT school....as a former student, and now parent i can say that Southview is great. Our children love this school and this town. Hope Mills is small but close to Fayetteville. I noticed they added Nearby homes for sale and wanted to say that SteepleChase off of Golfview is a great community. We have lived here for 4 yrs and its super safe, close to Rockfish Elementary, close to Fantasy Lake water park, the Rec center, outdoor walking path, golf course, etc....the schools here are really great..inside Fayetteville, not so much but we can say that Southview, Hope Mills Middle and Rockfish Elementary are super great and super caring schools!!
After sending my son to South View for his first year i'm very disappointed in my decision to send him here. The gang violence was way more overwhelming then I had anticipated it to be. Crips had threatened my son multiple times which had gotten to a point were he would fear of going to school. I had originally decided to send him here because of the IB program. In all honesty isn't all that great like i had expected it too be. The school is falling apart and ever since the new principal it hasn't been looked into. Over all I would not risk the chances of sending your child to this school.
Has gone way down hill over the past few years. Major Problem!! Guidance department needs to keep employees updated with its available programs, etc... There are quite a few things that needs attention here!
South View High School is a good school but I feel as a parent that the children are given excessive amounts of homework each night. My child begins their homework each night right after school is released and normally finishes their homework at about 10pm each night. That averages to about 5-6 hour s of homework nightly. I know my child s experience with excessive homework is not an isolated situation because several parents have also mentioned to me that they experience the same situation in their home as well.
Southview high is a great school. They are very good with the kids and the parents are involved. Drama, sports, academics are all important. They also have a great 9th grade course and a super autistic program!!
South View's IB Academy is the best educational opportunity for students in Cumberland County. You will find no better program or teachers at any other high school.
