Coming from schools on Fort Bragg, it was definitely a change going to C Wayne Collier. I've loved some teachers for my daughter and really disliked others so I think it is kind of hit or miss. I will say the new principal and VP McLamb are outstanding! Things are really changing for this school. My daugher is very advance ( in AIG for 4 years now) and I love that this school has a program to help her excel even further. She was also in Science Olympiad and students from the school placed in several categories this year and the competition (including my daughter!) We are moving and my daughter will miss this school and her friends here. They are changing school hours for next year(fall '13) to start at 8:30 and end at 3:15, I wish they had done that last year! Don't let the rating discourage you from this school. Stay involved, make sure your child's teacher is a good match and bring up any issues to the principle and they will quickly be resolved.
My kids have gone to C Wayne Collier for the last 4 years. This is a terrific neighborhood school with excellent teachers, who really care about the children. The school has undergone some administrative changes since my children began and I believe this has made a huge difference. The Principal, Vice Principal, and teachers are all working to make this one of the leading schools in Cumberland County. I believe some of the lower ratings for this school have to do more with parental involvement with their children's education than anything else. The teachers can only do so much without help inside the home. Great school.
I have a special needs child. They really need to work on ways to communicate and work with the parents with the best interest of the child in mind. I beleive they need teachers who are specially trained to work with these children. They are just as special as all the other children in the school and I feel that they are treated differently and unfairly sometimes.
I am moving to the Collier district in a matter of days, and although my children will finish the year at their current school, they will attend Collier for the 2011-2012 school year (1st and 2nd grades). I have checked the schools report card over and over and can't help but worried about my kids being at Collier. Can someone give me some peace of mind???
I do not like this school, I have a child who attends this school and he has Autism. The principal refused services from outside agencies. It seems she cares more about her getting all the credit for student accomplishment instead of working with the community and what is best for the children.
Love this school! i have five children all who have attended this school and have had great success! the administration the teachers Mrs. Smiley...Mrs. Allen...Mrs McKinley...Mrs. Burgess... Mrs Roye... Mrs. Schlarb who is no longer @ school... Mrs. Baker...wonderful...Mrs Stackhouse Mrs. Davis Mrs White and her assistants... MR. Parker Mrs Owen they love the studentds concerned with their progress and they work together to keep parents infromed ...great school would recommend to any parent who wants a quality education for their child
We love Mrs Mckinley and Mrs Currie.....they are loving and caring and meet/exceed the needs of our children. As Prek parents, we are nervous but they ease our fears and genuinley love our kids!
My son attended 2nd and now 3rd grade at Collier. They do have monthly reading nights and I believe that is plenty as the PARENT should be reading at home with their child nightly. My son adored his 2nd grade teacher and is fond of the teacher this year. After moving from another state my son has adjusted very well to Collier and is on the A/B honor roll. I am kept aware daily of 'talking' issues and from my experience the teacher/parent duo works well together. I am currently buying a new house and making every effort to keep my son at Collier through his 5th grade year. There are family dining nights, quarterly awards assemblies and as far as im concerend excellant communication between school and parents!
My child is in his 3rd year here this year. He started with pre K and is currently in 1st. His pre K teacher was good, but his kindergarten teacher was and is the best. Ms Emerson has the best attitude. She teaches her class to always help others and treat others with respect. This year my son has Mrs Smith and I think that she is fair and helpful so far. my son is having a hard time adjusting to more academics and we are having a rough start, but we are getting there. I havent had any bad experiences yet. I am happy with my child here.
This school really does not have a lot to offer children. Reading nights are held once a month if that. In my son's class there are a few kids that act out all the time. Nothing seems to be done, so this makes me question their disciplinary policy. Some of the staff is wonderful, some need replaced. Everytime I go in it seem the library is closed. How can kids make their AR goals if they cant get in. Overall, I wish we could take our boys elsewhere, but I will continue having an effect in their education.
I have a child currently in third grade and one who is now in the eighth grade who spen his entire elementary career in Collier. I am an involved parent and have been very pleased with my expirence and thiers. The staff has changed alot over these many years, but there has constantly been a nurturing, caring teaching staff there. It is a great place to spend your day!
My child started C. Wayne some months back and the school is different from the one she left last year, the school is smaller, No accelerating reader nights, and the teacher my child have have to many kids to really be able to help them one on one and my child is in the first grade. I never took a tour of the school the first day my child was enrolled, and the teacher never gave her a list of materials they needed for the class. So overrall the school need to come up.
I have had three of my children at C.W.Collier. Two which have IEP's. When I ran up against a teacher that would not follow my sons IEP I too met with resistance on moving him to another class. However after obtaining a Child advocate my son was moved and went from all failing grades to A,B,C. Mrs. Johnson was a godsend . This teachers unfailing support helped my son to achieve. She is a wonder with kids that have disabilities. MY other daughter who went into first grade and could not read at all because of a lax kindergarten teacher also received a wonderful teacher named Mrs. Ruiz. By the end of first grade my daughter was doing second grade work. These two teachers are too be commended.
My daugter and son attended there third year at CW Collier. When my daughter was in the second grade she had a teacher that looked at her reading skills as a joke and I was not happy with how she choose to handle the situation. As my daughter did pass to the third grade, she had a god given teacher, Ms. Bedell, who made sure that she was on task and keep us very up to date on her progress. I feel like she was very dedicated and cared dearly for my daughter. She is an instant recommendation for the third grade. My son had Ms. Roye' and I appreicated her teaching skills for my son could remember everything and repeat it at home with ease. She is a second grade teacher. Even though the school year was long and tough, both came through with flying colors.
This is my daughters secound year with this school and she loves it. I have to say that I agree with her overall views. I know that when I drop her off in the morning she is going to have a filled day of learning and fun. Each evening I get a full report from her on all that she learns and it all ways ends with ' it was so much fun'. Mrs Allen, her k-teacher last year was God sent and gave my daughter a passion for school. I would recommend her in a heart beat. And this year she has Ms.Steibel who really works well with her. My daughter has been able to do her best and C.Wayne Collier elementry has given her the room to do so.
