I am graduating next Friday from West Wilkes High School. This school was an alright school. I moved to this school my senior year, and I played in the band. The school paid more attention to sports than the band. But besides all of the that, I had a good experince at this school, becuase the teachers were nice, and most of the students are nice as well. I would reccomend this school to anyone, after this year the fine arts programs have deffinitley gotten more attention. Join band for a gret experince! (;
I am a current student at West, and all i can say is what a wonderful place. It is small meaning it is a great teaching and learning environment. My parents really like the school because it has opened many new doors for me. I wouldn't be at any other school than West.
I am a very proud parent of a student at West Wilkes High School. The principal is exceptional and is always interested in the his students.
I am a former student from West Wilkes, and I graduated in 2008. For one, I would like to say that I am very fortunate to have attended West Wilkes High. The teachers are the best, with one of the teachers, Mr. Jim Brooks, being a national teacher of the year! I do have to put alot of credit on Mr. Gatewood though. He is one of the best principles I have ever seen. He knows all of the students names, makes it a point to talk to all of the students, and attends as many of the sport and band events he can. I was in the marching band all four years, and my senior year I was the drum major, and Mr. Gatewood was really supportive of the band and other arts and sports. I believe West Wilkes to be one of the best schools in the nation.
I have had two children through West Wilkes High School in the past 7 years. I can't say enough good things about this school. The addition of our principal, Mr. Gatewood,was the icing on the cake. The teachers here as a whole care so much about the students. They are not only interested in their classroom lives but their daily lives as well. The administrative staff is always helpful and willing to do whatever it takes to handle the task at hand. The coaches are the finest I've seen anywhere. They are supportive and firm but the kids seem to love them all. I attended another high school in the county and had a much younger sister who attended that same school. After having seen her 4 years, I am thankful everyday to be in West's district.
I can't praise West Wilkes High School enough to give it justice! The staff, as a whole, is always helpful and respectful to the students/parents. All questions and concerns are dealt with promptly. Parent/student involvement is obviously important to the staff and feedback is encouraged and welcomed. My daughter is proud to say she attends West Wilkes High School and my husband and I feel very blessed to be a part of this great community and school. The leadership at West Wilkes High School is impeccable, starting with the principal, Hal Gatewood. He knows each child by name and goes out of his way to speak to them on a daily basis, beginning with each morning as he opens car doors for the students. He makes himself highly visible and available to students/parents. He and his staff support all extracurricular activities as he attends many events even on weekends!
My child attends west high and I must say that I am surprised by all of these high ratings. I do not feel that the teachers are as great as they are talked about, and many of the students are mixed up in various things that they should not be. West High does not deserve 5 stars in any category!!!
The Quality of academic programs in our school is the absolutely the best for our children. The teachers take pride in teaching and work very hard to provide the best education for our children. If for any reason, a child may be lacking in something. The teachers will call home to talk with the parents to help the child progress with the education. It is also very important that our child get involved with music, art, sports and other extracurricular activities WE are very proud of our school, and our children. They all work very hard to accomplish there very best. Our parents are very involved, this is very important. We also have very high test scores! Way to go!
Out of all the schools in Wilkes County, West is by far the finest of them. Although it is smaller than most, that also serves as a benefit to the students and provides a more welcoming enviroment. Students share a special relationship with their teachers as is they were family, or close friends. This school is different than most, and it's 'laid-back' style makes learning as enjoyable as possible for both teachers and students alike.
West Wilkes High School is a Great School for any Children to go to. And the Vice Prinicipal will work with the parents anyway that she possibly can, Thanks Mrs. Goodman for your very hard work for our School and your High Support and Confidentiality of our own Children's Safety.
