This is such a great school, and I feel so blessed and thankful that our child is a student here. The atmosphere is positive and loving. The administration and teachers are caring and supportive with the right amount of discipline. I also love that the school is a smaller size. As a result, the students get the attention they need to do their best. In the mornings, before school starts, students have the option of meeting with teachers for "labs" if they need extra help with their coursework. We have had no problems scheduling conferences with teachers when necessary. MMS also has an excellent performing and creative arts program and many after school activities and sports. The amount of homework our child gets is reasonable, and she enjoys it. It definitely is an advanced curriculum though. They do two years of math in one year for 8th grade. There is also a lot of group work, which could be frustrating for an introverted or shy child. The numbered grading scale has been difficult for us to get used to as well. But overall, we have been thrilled with the education our child is receiving at MMS.
Mount Mourne is a great school to be at. We have great teachers that care about the kids and their progress. If you do not get a certain topic or lesson you can go to your teacher and they will gladly review it with you. They really care about you! Our principal, Dr. Boen Nutting is such a sweet lady. We never have any fights or bullying what so ever. Bullying is not accepted! Mount Mourne is an IB school, this means that we have Criterions depending on what class you are talking about. Since this is an International Baccalaureate school we grade on a 0-8 scale. Another part about being an IB student is that all of our eight classes are advanced. It won't always be the easiest transition, but you adjust to everything very quickly. ( We are the top middle school in North Carolina.) If you want to get one of the best educations, I highly recommend you go to Mount Mourne IB School.
Mt.Mourne IB has fantastic teachers, amazing parents, and gifted students which has helped to create a great learning atmosphere. Students are challenged every day to view the world around them in a new way and be life long learners. Students are not only learning about facts and figures but how to be better people. The building is older but only because the two other home schools ( Brawley and Lakeshore) use all the money. The atmosphere is great though and helps students to excell. A fantastic school and is highly recommended. Do not go to Brawley or Lakeshore. I did that last year and this school is so much better! There are no cliques, drama or bad teachers that hinder learning like at the home schools. Great school is loved by all the students. Feels like a 2nd home. Highly reccomended!
i'm in 7th grade and currently go to Mount Mourne IB. what used to be an elementary school, was changed into an IB middle school. IB stands for international bacheloriette and all of the classes are advanced, and we have more extra curricular classes than most schools. i have gone here ever since it changed to a middle school in 2009 and i have to say that it is absolutely outstanding. the teachers care and make sure that every student understands material and if not, they will provide one-on-one after school tutoring. the kids at the school are great as well, everyone is respectful to teachers, and there has never been any fights. although the homework is hard, the teachers apply the things you are learning to things that happen in the outside world. every week we have a disscussion about something that has happened in the world and how it relates to what we are currently learning. i think that it's an amazing school with high expectations and a good enviroment. i definately recommend this school to anyone who wants the highest learning and wants to get into a great college.
This school is in a state of transition that is not going smoothly. It is not easy to get a good teacher in several grade levels. Morale is questionable. Good computer teacher, Music teacher and counselor.
