Don't place a lot of emphasis on test scores! Test scores are not linked to intelligence. I am a lawyer and have had three children who have attended Bangert in the last 10 years. Two of my kids went on to private school in 6th grade and scored in the top 2% of their grade after making the average scores on EOG tests. Bangert Elementary is a wonderful school that is again becoming one of the top schools in Craven County due to the new leadership. Many doc's, lawyers, judges, business owners, accountants, realtors, police officers and military send their kids to Bangert. The administration at this school is very welcoming to people from all over the country and is quite accustomed to transplants. Technology has become a main focus of the new principal and focused PTO. This school is on the right track!
Bangert Elementary has the best of the best in teaching! They really do care about their students and families which makes all the difference in a child's first few years of school. Today's public education changes frequently, but the teachers manage the changes well and continue to help their students thrive. We have been very satisfied with the level of education our children have attained. We are also very pleased with the Connect staff: Music, Art, Library, AIG and PE are all terrific. There are many opportunities for parents to get involved by helping in the classroom or through the very active and hard-working PTO. Volunteership is encouraged and celebrated by the school staff and PTO. Its a great place to start a child's education!
Under the guidance of a new principal Bangert Elementary is becoming a more high tech school. By 2010/11 each 5th grade student will have his/her own netbook in addition to the computer lab. The Kagan system is being put in place and one 5th grade teacher just won 'Teacher of the Year', for Craven County. The wonderful PTO is funding a school wide TV system and many remodeling projects are underway.
Great technology focused school. Each 5th grade student in 2010-11 will have his/her own netbook. The Kagan system (team building) will be in place and one of the 5th grade Teachers won 'Teacher of the Year' for Craven County. Bangert Elementary has become more technologically savvy in the last few years due to the focused PTO and new principal. Love that my kids can walk or ride bikes to school. Very little need for buses in this neighborhood school.
Both of my children attended A. Bangert K-5 and I have been very happy overall with their level of education and the quality of the teachers. But most importantly, my children LOVE going to school. I have one child in the academically gifted program and one child that is not. I truly believe that they are Both getting an excellent education. I have learned that each child is different regardless of test scores and I feel that their teachers are quite astute at taking this into consideration when making recommendations for a particular child.
Bangert Elementary is a wonderful community school. In my experience the teachers have been very giving and really seem to care about the kids. The PTO has done a really good job with funding remodeling projects and purchasing more progressive technology for the classrooms. The small size has been an advantage (moved from NJ). My kids have made friends very easily and enjoy the family park nearby for socializing after school. Many professional parents in the community help with school events like Fall Festival, Bingo Night, various music productions and a dance for 4th & 5th grade.
We have been exceedingly happy with Bangert. The leadership at the school has been great about welcoming parents through, 'Pastries with the Principal', a breakfast forum that allows parents to meet with the principal on a weekly basis. Because Bangert is a small school (3-4) classes per grade (pod), it has allowed my kids to join the community very quickly and not get lost in the crowd. The field trips to the Outerbanks (Wright Brothers Museum, Lost Colony), overnight in the VA aquarium, and the overnight at local summer camps have far exceeded my expectations as a parent and as a volunteer on those trips. The teachers are wonderful and giving and the strong PTO has allowed this school to be one of the top elementary schools in New Bern.
My son started kindergarten at Bangert this year. It has been a wonderful experience. He has learned so much so fast. The teachers are great, and they make learning fun. The kids participate in many fun activities outside of the classroom. The environment is absolutely safe. I do not have to worry about my son when he is at school. I would recommend Bangert to any parent.
