Northwood High School

The quality of the teachers has skyrocketed in the past 3 years. Thank goodness for Mr. Blise, the principle. I hope he will be with us for many years to come. This community needed him right when we got him. N.W.H.S has prospered in acedemics, social awareness, school spirit, respect and sports. It's a great thing.

We have two students now going to this school and they love it. Has a great Marching Band and director, plus, can't say enough about our principal who has turned this school around in a short period of time and make us proud of it. Thanks to all their hard work. PS. Love the art programs there.

A NC School of Distinction, and one of Newsweek's 1500 Best High Schools for the 2nd year in a row. NHS principal was one of the finalists for Principal of the Year in 2009-2010. Improved test scores, great athletics program, Honor Societies in all four Arts Education Disciplines (National Art Honor Society, Tri-M International Music Society, National Honor Society for Dance, and International Thespians Society). Strong support groups (PTSA, Athletic Boosters, Band Boosters, Arts Education Foundation). Polite, friendly, engaged student body.

I am a Northwood High School parent. We currently have one student at NHS. She is our 3rd to attend Northwood and is a junior. Unfortunately, NHS struggled during the years that our older two sons attended. On the bright side, today the school is a totally different story. We have the best of administration and instructors. We are so thankful for the change over the past 2 years and see the brightest of future for Northwood students. We will be proud to say that our daughter is a 2012 graduate of Northwood High School

My son transferred here his sophomore year. It was the best move for him. The teachers care, it is a great environment & the principal is amazing. He is graduating this year, and we are thankful got spent the past few years at Northwood.

This is a Great School in all aspects. I am very pleased they way my kids are being thought. The principal and teachers are excellent. I see a lot of parent involment in school activities.

State summaries of last year's SAT scores shows that Northwood leads Chatham County Schools, was above the state averages, and only 2 points below the national averages. In addition, NC released the 4 year graduation cohort data for last year and Northwood leads Chatham County Schools in this area as well. We've found the leadership and teachers to be professional, positive and demanding. Our student's experience has been terrific.

Since previous reviews were written, this school has a new superintendent and a new principal (nominated for Principal of the Year, last year). It is experiencing a renaissance, with the completion of a $4.5 million renovation, upgrades to arts & sports facilities, and has been named one of Newsweek's 1500 Best High Schools for the past two year. Dedicated staff, talented students, and involved parents have made huge strides and continue to make improvements and offer more opportunities for students to excel.
