This school is quite behind academically. My son has attended RHES since 3rd grade (he is now in 5th) and I can't say his knowledge compares in any way to others in his same grade with an acceptable academic background. Teachers communicate somewhat. There are programs for academically troubled children but none for the achiever. If the kid doesn't score 100% on some random test he is off the 'advance' program. My son brings 1 sheet of homework/day if that much. It's very sad to see him stuck. I can't wait to put him in private school next year where I hope they can bring him up to speed for the years he's lost moving at a sluggish pace in this school.
I am a parent, employee and volunteer at RHES and there is alot of upgrading needed at this school. However there is very poor parent participation at this school as well. Only a few hands can't make the difference it takes alot of caring people to make the difference. There are tons of request that go home to the families asking for volunteers and always the same volunteers show so please jump in and give a helping hand and maybe we can work up to having smartboards in every class, and bring some ideas to the table to help make the school a better place.
I'm a parent and employee at Rockfish Hoke. I was very disappointed in this school. The gym is very small and technology is very low. They are finally getting smartboards for some of the classroom but not all. The turn around rate for teachers are very high. Most of the teachers are either first year or second. No one likes the principal, and the principal doesn't care for the teachers. It's a very tense environment. There's also no money in the school, so the fundraisers are poor, there are no extracurricular programs, or activities. There's an afterschool program but limited slots and unorganized.
After moving to this school from a school on post my son was way ahead of the other students in math, reading and writing. Everyone at the school is very nice however I am worried about my son falling behind better schools in the area. I'm afraid we'll have to put in in a private school to ensure a good education in this area.
My grandson is in Kindergarten...I highly recommend Ms. Holland and Ms. Couchman. The changes I have seen in my grandson have been wonderful. I wish they could loop to 1st grade with him. That is just how much I recommend them and the school.
I agree! My son had Ms. Laughlin in 2001 when she was a brand new teacher. She did an outstanding job. I requested that my twins also be in her class two years later and she did a wonderful job with them to. Her love for teaching and for helping her students achieve is what all educators should strive for!
The environment at this school is great. My daughter loves the school and adores her teacher! However this school is OVERCROWDED! My child has 23 students in her class and is forced to learn in a hut. This make shift classroom a joke. And this is with the new expansion to school that was just built.
We have no problems with RHES. The teachers care about the kids in their class and want them to do better. They teach every child in their class. They don't let the slower ones fall to the side and forget about them. The kids that need help get the help they need from the teachers and staff and the ones the learn faster get every thing they need to keep moving ahead.
This school academically falls behind. My child did not learn what he was suppose to last school year in Rockfish-Hoke. Now he is already struggling the first week in his new grade at his new school(reviewing material he should have learned last year). On a positive note, this school does have wonderful art and music teachers.
This school is well below standards in many categories. To start with, academically they are far behind, the teachers could use alot more training.
