Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I love this school. The teachers/staff are all very friendly and the kids are all pushed to their best potential (in a good way), my daughter has learned SO much this year alone. The principle really cares for the kids, welcomes them each morning in the halls and knows most of them by name. Big thumbs up for this school.

Absolutely love RHE! The teachers are amazing and do everything they can to make sure the children are striving for their best. Children are pushed to do their best, but not to an "overwhelming" point. Mrs. Dowless, the principal is absolutely wonderful too; You know she really cares for the students! My daughter has went to RHE from PreK to currently 3rd grade (=

I really appreciate this school, they listen to my concerns, strive to make learning more challenging. Mrs. Ashley VP is always checking in around the campus and has addressed previous concerns of mine in a timely manner. The teachers know the children by name and speak to them. Ms. Dallas (Principal) is always smiling and strives to help get the recognition it desirves. The custodial staff even helps children pick up stuff or even tie their shoes when I have seen parents walk by the children. I try to be involved as much as I can but also do not hesitate to call and find out from teachers and the office what can be done to help.

This school is great. The teachers are so nice and will work with you and your child to get to where they need to be. The principle is very friendly and helpful as well. It scored highest in Raeford Elementary schools last yr too.

This school is quite behind academically. My son has attended RHES since 3rd grade (he is now in 5th) and I can't say his knowledge compares in any way to others in his same grade with an acceptable academic background. Teachers communicate somewhat. There are programs for academically troubled children but none for the achiever. If the kid doesn't score 100% on some random test he is off the 'advance' program. My son brings 1 sheet of homework/day if that much. It's very sad to see him stuck. I can't wait to put him in private school next year where I hope they can bring him up to speed for the years he's lost moving at a sluggish pace in this school.

I am a parent, employee and volunteer at RHES and there is alot of upgrading needed at this school. However there is very poor parent participation at this school as well. Only a few hands can't make the difference it takes alot of caring people to make the difference. There are tons of request that go home to the families asking for volunteers and always the same volunteers show so please jump in and give a helping hand and maybe we can work up to having smartboards in every class, and bring some ideas to the table to help make the school a better place.

I'm a parent and employee at Rockfish Hoke. I was very disappointed in this school. The gym is very small and technology is very low. They are finally getting smartboards for some of the classroom but not all. The turn around rate for teachers are very high. Most of the teachers are either first year or second. No one likes the principal, and the principal doesn't care for the teachers. It's a very tense environment. There's also no money in the school, so the fundraisers are poor, there are no extracurricular programs, or activities. There's an afterschool program but limited slots and unorganized.

After moving to this school from a school on post my son was way ahead of the other students in math, reading and writing. Everyone at the school is very nice however I am worried about my son falling behind better schools in the area. I'm afraid we'll have to put in in a private school to ensure a good education in this area.

My grandson is in Kindergarten...I highly recommend Ms. Holland and Ms. Couchman. The changes I have seen in my grandson have been wonderful. I wish they could loop to 1st grade with him. That is just how much I recommend them and the school.

I agree! My son had Ms. Laughlin in 2001 when she was a brand new teacher. She did an outstanding job. I requested that my twins also be in her class two years later and she did a wonderful job with them to. Her love for teaching and for helping her students achieve is what all educators should strive for!

The environment at this school is great. My daughter loves the school and adores her teacher! However this school is OVERCROWDED! My child has 23 students in her class and is forced to learn in a hut. This make shift classroom a joke. And this is with the new expansion to school that was just built.

We have no problems with RHES. The teachers care about the kids in their class and want them to do better. They teach every child in their class. They don't let the slower ones fall to the side and forget about them. The kids that need help get the help they need from the teachers and staff and the ones the learn faster get every thing they need to keep moving ahead.

This school academically falls behind. My child did not learn what he was suppose to last school year in Rockfish-Hoke. Now he is already struggling the first week in his new grade at his new school(reviewing material he should have learned last year). On a positive note, this school does have wonderful art and music teachers.

This school is well below standards in many categories. To start with, academically they are far behind, the teachers could use alot more training.

This school has never been as good as it is now. Mr. Marston and Mrs. Caulder are the best. We are so proud of the changes. They quickly saw that some of the parents wanted to take over and got rid of them. The students are so happy.

My daugter learns so much slower than other children and she's having lot of problems in school, but the principal is doing so much to make sure she's getting everything she needs and that really means alot to me. also her special education teacher Mrs. Rugg is really great she is a very Positive person and that's good. also I have lots of mixed feelings about her teacher I think that she really don't care for my child and I can't waite until this year is over so she will be out of her classs and maybe she will get a more Positive teacher next year. but other then that I think Rockfish is great.

My feelings about Rockfish are mixed. My child is a fast learner and seems to constantly be bored in her classroom. There are plenty of programs for underacheivers however there are none for overacheivers. Also be aware that this school in no way shape or form participates in any Holidays. There is no fun in this school at all! This school is all about making the grade and that is it. On a good note, my child has so far had a good year and we enjoy her teacher.

We transferred to N.C this year from FL and the transition has been a smooth one. I am very impressed with the school administration and the teachers. The only downfall in my eyes is that NC schools are very far behind in curriculum. My first grader is learning things she learned in Kindergarten at her old school. However it's no fault of the schools, and the principal assured me that my child would be taught on her level and not that of the lowest learner! My experience so far has been great!

Ms. Liz Laughlin is a great K teacher. My child did well in her class, and she is a truly wonderful, caring, and thoughtful teacher, that puts her students first. Wish I was as happy this year with her first grade teacher, however, this year I am truly disappointed. Hopefully, it will get better??

I cannot say enough good things about the teachers at RHES. They are a very committed group who always put the child first. I have been honored to have my children in the classrooms of Ms. Newell, Ms. Willis, Ms. Wahl, I have gotten to know many other teachers and staff members and they are one GREAT group of people.

I want to thank Miss. Newell for a wonderful school year. My daughter has enjoyed being in your class this year. You are a wonderful, caring, teacher! Brian and I are truely greatful to you for doing an outstanding job teaching our daughter. I also want to comment on what a wonderful school Rockfish Hoke Elementary School is. I'm thankful for all of the staff working at our school!!! They all work together and really care about the students.

I highly recommend Mrs Lewis for K class - I've had two children in her class and I couldn't dream of a better K teacher. I also recommend Mrs. Parker for 2nd Grade. She has been a great teacher for my son.
