I must say that, although there have been slight communication issues and a couple of bullying situations that maybe could have been handled more effectively (although the outcome was what I thought it should be), I've been very pleased with Lynn Road Elementary. Overall, my child's experience has been very positive. There seem to be resources for every type of student, and most teachers are creative and try to make the learning process as "fun" as possible. The school is using a new platform called Classroom DoJo. I think is a wonderful way to keep parents up-to-date with their child's progress and also for the student to track his/her own progress on a weekly basis. There are appropriate rewards for students from all backgrounds who exhibit positive behavior/character traits and scholastic achievements throughout the year. The after-school program is top notch and has been a life saver for me. I have been very pleased with Lynn Road Elementary and feel sure that will continue.
I have two children at LRES (and have been there for five yeears). It is a wonderful school with quality teachers, supportive administration and PTA dedicated to supporting the students, teachers and fostering community. We love it---I don't need to apply to a magnet--when I have a super school around the corner.
What a blessing this school has been to many, many families. The teachers and staff work so hard to individualize for each child. Because the school is Title 1, there are lots of resources at the school to make sure that the needs of each child are being met. Teams of teachers meet weekly to map out education plans and discuss best practices. The school is warm and friendly and the staff truly love the students. My children love school!
Lynn road was a great school when my oldest went k-5 which was over 6 yrs ago. My child now has been there going her 4th year and it has been horrible the whole time. While I liked her teachers overall the administrations lacks and have had teachers in the past say that. My daughter is a year behind and is not getting adequate help. There is such disruption and unruly children with no discipline. The bullying and mean children is overly abundant. I have even had my child picked on by a teacher that wasn't her own. I would not recommend this school at all not until the higher ups either change or new people come in and add backbone to the school
My son goes to Lynn Road and we love everything about the school. The teachers are happy to be there everyday and the school itself is bright with lots of windows. Every morning in carpool the principal greets the children by name and they all seem to love her. My son just loved kindergarten and because of the wonderful staff he is counting down to first grade.
We've been at Lynn Road Elementary for 5 years now and have been happier each year. The adminstration and the teaching staff are outstanding and have an open door policy. Any concerns, questions or comments I've had have always been welcome and have always been addressed appropriately. We are very active in the PTA and their events and have found it to be a great way to not only get to know other parents, but know the majority of the children. Lynn Road has become a home away from home and a place where my child has felt appreciated, challenged, encouraged and loved. Lynn Road is our base school and I wouldn't change for anything.
This is our 5th year at Lynn Rd. Elementary. I have 2 children that attend there, and another that will start next year. I absolutely love the staff and cannot say enough good things about them. I feel that they care about each and every student, and that they want to make the best learning experience for each child, dependent on individual needs. Because we are a Title 1 school, there are many resources to help classroom teachers with students that need additional help, and the teacher can devote time to challenging students that need that as well. The Principal is just awesome - she knows each student by name and welcomes interaction with all parents/ families. The PTA is very involved and really tries to enhance the learning experience for all children. There is such a sense of community within the school, that goes beyond the classroom. We actually requested a transfer to Lynn Rd. because we did not care for the program offered by our base school; we would not choose to attend any where else.
We are currently in our 5th year at Lynn Road Elementary and we love it. The staff is incredibly dedicated and hard working and the principal is passionate about children learning and learning to love school. She knows every child by name. I watch teachers go out of their way to challenge more advanced students. The numbers of students receiving 4's on their eogs increased last year, confirming that the bright students are getting brighter and being challenged in the last classroom. Because the school is Title 1, there are tons of additional resources for struggling students. Teachers build relationships with these students and work tirelessly to help them get to grade level. The love these teachers have for their students is amazing. The PTA is very strong and committed to enriching the education of each student. The school building itself is beautiful and we definitely have the best library and librarian in Wake County. No school is perfect, but given the choice of any other elementary school, we would still pick Lynn Road.
My child has only been at Lynn Rd for two years but I can say she is getting a quality education. She is well above her grade level for reading and math and I attribute that to the great teachers she has had thus far. I have had the opportunity to volunteer as a proctor as well as with the PTA and have only seen greatness come from the teachers and volunteers. I am always treated well and feel that I am appreciated tremendously when I volunteer. If given the choice to change schools, I absolutely would not! My child loves it and I love the community, family experience and the education my child is receiving. Way to go Lynn Rd
My child attended LRES for three years. The entire experience was disappointing. The teachers teach only what is needed to pass End of Grade exams (but, large numbers of students still fail). The brightest children are brushed aside and never challenged. There are bullies who seem unstoppable. The teachers ignore their behavior. Children are picked on in bathrooms. A kindergartener had his lunch stolen, but was afraid to say anything. Several teachers exhibit bullying behavior. Yelling seems to be the only way many teachers attempt to control their classrooms. The PTA is involved, but is very cliquish. Families from one neighborhood dominate the leadership. Several parents have even boasted about their successful email/letter-writing campaign to have an "Undesirable" child removed from the school. Decisions regarding classroom placement seem to favor the children whose parents are most involved; these children get the "Best" teachers. This leads to one class in every grade having an abundance of volunteers, and the rest of the classrooms doing without the help of parents. You will be given a choice as to whether your child attends this school or one other. Choose the other option!
My daughter is in her 4th year at LRE and my son graduated 3 years ago. I love this school. I know there are issues at times that some parents have had to struggle with, but we have had a great experience over all. I have also taught at the school and continue to sub here. The PTA is very strong and supportive. The media center is the best in the county and is at the heart of the school. We have beautiful gardens and artwork and just got an outdoor classroom. The teachers work very hard not only to provide the best education for all levels of students but to make a family kind of school that welcomes children.
We have two children at LRES (1st grade and 4th grade) and have been happy with our teachers and the parental involvement at our school. Those who can do help A LOT, which has become a necessity now that TA's are few and far between. I agree with the other reviewer that commented about behavior issues and community schools. I think once everyone is going to school in their own neighborhoods it will settle down. Unfortunately, the principals and teachers can only do so much with some of these problem kids. I blame their parents, not the school. We transferred to LRES and have not regretted our decision one bit. We love our school!
I have 2 students on LRES currently. For the most part I have been very happy with the teachers they have had. This year my 5th grader has a teacher that seems to be one bulb short. Have sent emails that go unanswered, forgets assignments, admits they have problems keeping up with all the students. This in part is due to lack of TA's in the school. Cutbacks have hurt our childrens education GREATLY!!! Have been a little worried about that but my children seem to be coming along well anyway. The parents, it seems, are always available to step in and help the teachers whenever needed. The bully issue is large as it is in most schools. Im not sure what else can be done to help with this problem. I contribute it to not having community schools where the children are from the same area. I do believe this causes problems and cliques. Overall I believe the school has been good for my children. We did choose this school over our base school, which has a worse reputation.
I have a 5th grader and a K at Lynn Road and we have had a fabulous experience at the school. The teachers have all been enthusiastic and encouraging of my children. The school has its struggles-as all do, but the teachers, staff and administration work to together to solve the problems and make this the best place for our children. It is a community you just can not help want to be apart of.
This school needs much improvement. My child is in her 4th year at LRE. The Principal and Assistant Principal seem to lead the pack in ignoring problems and telephone calls for help with school issues. Both Principal and Assistant Principal are near retirement and appear to dislike being "bothered" by the parents. Trying to reach either of them resulted in unreturned messages. Trying to get follow up by either of them resulted in them being hostile towards me and my child, what a helpless feeling for a parent! We ended up not being able to use the school's Title I programs last year because of the administration being so rude and horrible to deal with. This year the front office told me they are a Title I school and I should consider a private school for my child to get a quality education. The Administration's attitutde shows this school is just treading water and the staff expects low performance.
I have two students at Lynn Road and another scheduled to enter Kindergarten next year. Our experience has been outstanding. Last year, our son was diagnosed with an emotional impairment; the staff at Lynn Rd, led by the superb professional and compassionate leadership of Principal Sheats, played a vital role in our successful mitigation of these difficult issues. We could not have done it without their help, which went above and beyond our expectations. In addition, the teamwork demonstrated by various teachers and resource leaders is exceptional. We had been attending a magnet school searching for a teaching approach that integrated subjects across offerings, but the magnet school was 20 minutes away. It turns out that the spirit of cooperation and communication at Lynn Road, 2 blocks from our house, has been far superior. Thank you, Lynn Road, for all that you've done for our children and for this community!
I love LRES as do my children! My son attended K-5 and is now in 7th grade. He still comes back to visit teachers and loves to volunteer at LRES. My daughter is in 4th grade and has been there since K. She, too, has loved every teacher she has had. I cannot speak highly enough of the teachers. LRES has an active Principal and Assistant Principal and consistently motivates the children to excel! LRES is the best! I could not be prouder to be a parent/student of LRES!
My child has attended this school the past 2 years and I am very unhappy with everything about it, from the teachers to the staff to the disorganization. They are rude and unhelpful. It takes days to call back when a concerned parent leaves a message! My son consistently tells me he is being bullied and that when he tells a teacher they won't do anything. He doesn't receive guidance and help on subjects he struggles with and even though we do homework nightly it never gets graded or even checked!
My children have enjoyed going to LRES. Last year all 3 increased their reading levels by 1 or 2 levels. I was very impressed by LRES's reading incentive. We're glad to be a part of the Lynn Road Elementary family.
Great school! The principal really cares about the students, awesome new teachers and seasoned teachers dedicated to Lynn Road. The PTA is amazing and provides many fun learning experiences and community activities. A great place to learn!
