Both my girls have thrived in the creative and supportive environment. As a dad I am so relieved to find a school that accepts and promotes individuality. It has given my children a true sense of self and acceptance.

It not only is an extension to our family, but the magnet program is excellent. My child has thrived since Kindergarten. The teachers and staff care about your child. The education is the best you can get. My child loves his 'specials' and his 'electives'. This has allowed him to learn so much more. Powell has been such a great experience.

This school has a family atmosphere where every child is treated like a child and not a number. Families are known to the staff and to each other. I love the arts focus and the great teachers all around! Powell is just simply a great school!

Powell's teachers (Ms. Scott specifically) have been fantastic in helping my grandson transition into the educational environment. The classes offered have inspired my grandson to learn. Learning is fun for him and that is so very important.

Powell GT Magnet Elementary is a great school because it has a great staff! The Teachers, the Adminstrative Offices, Cafeteria & Custodial staff are all great leaders for the students at Powell. The Teachers go above and beyond the norm to provide the students with the resources they need to reach academic success. Powell is really a great family environment and offers many different events for families and the community to come together and support the school. The greatness of the staff is then transferred to the students. The schools Performing Arts program is incredible!! Each year, I am blown away by the talent the children possess! The productions the school has each year is a showcase for the students to incorporate the academics with the arts.

Powell has been a great school for my two children because it has allowed them the ability to explore many avenues of learning with support. Teachers and staff do a great job of making sure that families feel welcome and informed. When you walk into the school the atmosphere of one of respect, love, and teamwork. I love the way they have had literacy and math nights, as well as interactive bullentin boards that allows for learning to take place around every corner. I also love the elective choices that range from extra help for struggling students to creative art's and problem solving strategy choices.

Powell GT Magnet Elementary Public School is a welcoming elementary school where we demonstrate respect for each other through our daily pledge and school motto. The populatuon at Powell is very diverse but all students get along and have learned to respect and appreciate the unique kids who make up our population. We have wonderful teachers dedicated to successful student achievemnt and growth which is demonstrated in our statistics demonstrated in our end of year scores and our progress toward closing the achivement gap. Powell school is operated under the guiding philosophy of Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences and we strive to offer opportunities to all students to experience many kinds of learning through art, drama, dance, technology and academic courses as well. I vote for our school because it is a very special place for learning.

Powell Elementary school has a triangular support system not found in most schools. The parents support the teachers, the teachers think the world of their parents and their help, and the administration supports both effectively too. It is a win-win when we all come together for the children

It's where all children are able to be ingaged in education, where all children can find their talent, where all children can reach their potential. It's education through academics, the arts and diversity. We are a community for the children: parents, teachers and administration.

I have sent 4 children to Powell, now, and have loved the opportunities presented to their very different needs. I have 2 that have played in Band, 1 in orchestra. 1 has Sensory Processing Disorder, others are Accelerated/Gifted, and all have their needs met. The staff, administration, and parents all work together to meet any issues and help our kids be successful. All of us care about all of the children, and volunteer every time we can.

Why do we love Powell? I don't know where to begin... The electives, the specials, the ability of the teachers to help both the higher level as well as the students who need more attention, the welcome team the drama and band productions... from the moment the kids enter in Kindergarten they have an opportunity to find their strengths and shine. The school is just awesome and the teachers? They are fantastic!! I couldn't have been blessed with a more devoted and loving staff to help educate my boys and to help them grow. I feel good about who I am entrusting them to each day and I also feel that I could go to the staff if any issues arose. Overall my experience with Powell has been nothing but good. We are truly blessed!

Powell GT Magnet Elementary is not just a school, it is a community. Every member of the faculty, from administrators to costodians, treat each child as one of their own. Teachers know all of the children in the school as well as their families. You cannot walk throught the doors without being greeted by name and a smile. The example set by the faculty filters through to the children and their families. We are a community that supports one another and lifts eachother up when needed. Our children learn together and grow together. Our children teach us as we watch them mature physically, mentally, and emotionally.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 North Carolina used End-of-Grade (EOG) tests to assess students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 in reading and math, and grades 5, 8, and 10 in science. The EOG is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of North Carolina.
