Hi, we are thinking about moving from Baton Rouge,Louisiana to Raleigh; if everything works out. I have a 6 year old in 1st grade. Can someone help me with good public schools in Raleigh? My son goes to a gifted school here in Baton rouge and we are very pleased with the program. But I am also looking for extra curricular activities in the school.

I know that you mentioned public school but I would also suggest you check out Oak City Academy: http://oakcityacademy.org. It offers a rigorous curriculum, classical and hands-on approach. Your child would definitely flourish because of past experience in gifted program and because of the individualized curriculum.

Brooks Museum Magnet Elementary for public.
St. Timothy's School or Our Lady of Lourdes for Private.
Be diligent in your search as Wake county has an overall good reputation, but in my opinion, individual schools vary greatly. We chose a private school (St. Timothy's) to avoid the constant "redistricting shuffle" that occurs each year, and have been exceedingly pleased.

Good Luck!

I don't have any input into elementary schools, as my son is only 14 months, but I just wanted to say that we moved to Raleigh from Baton Rouge last March and we love it! Good luck!!
