This is honestly the worst school I have ever attended. The administraors are selective about who they punish, they're afraid to punish certain people and pick on those that are not "Christian like" or "too different". Also the dresscode policy is a tid bit outrageous. Wearing shorts is fine but if you have holes in your pants below the knee it's not, somehow facial peircings are a disruption to the learning environment, and soon band T's are about to be banned. The school is also very unsanitary, last year there was a dead rat by the trash can that wasn't picked up untill a week later. Some of the teachers at this school don't even know how to teach. One teacher I've had read straight from the book and still didn't know what to do. Please save your teens and choose somewhere nice.
I am a teacher at Person High School, and am proud to work there. We serve a community of students that is very diverse and work in a rural area that faces serious economic challenges. At Person, the administration is firm with students because that is what is necessary to create a positive learning environment. Teachers are free to work in a variety of styles, and though we are required to work in Professional Learning Communities, I do not feel that we are forced to become 'cookie cutter' teachers, as is often the case in large, urban schools. I am happy and feel well-supported there. I feel that a student's level of success and satisfaction with his or her experience at Person High is dependent on the level of effort put into his or her own education.
Person high school is one of the best within the county. I fondly beleive that this school is not racist and is nothing of the sort. people assume that the school is racist because of the large population and thinking that they are treated unfairly. everyone is treated fairly at this school and i am willing to stand up for that.
This is one of the best high schools in the country. Challenging teachers, high achieving students and a wonderful and safe environment make this a great place to go to school. Roxboro is absolutely the best place in the southeast to raise a family.
I believe that Person overall has some issues to deal within the school itself but I also feel that because of academic requirements that Person high school is one the top ranked schools in North Carolina. They don't just let you settle for 25 credits like most schools do in order to graduate, they push you and make you earn 29 credits to graduate which is fairly easy. I do feel though however, that because of the overcrowdedness of the school, nothing is really done to keep students from dropping which in turn hurts our school system. I think that Mr. Bugnar should have retired years ago because of the simple fact that I believe that he dosen't know how to run a school as effectively as he may have use to. Also I feel that seniors do not get a lot of privileges either.
I think Person is a unfair school. It is who you know and who you are in order to be able to help your child in school I think the Principal is a very unfair person. That doesn't listen to a parent concern for their child. Some of the teacher's are excellent but there are a few is that is unfair to the students. some of the students get to do things where others do not. I think is very unfair for a student to stay after school because of having to use the restroom, especially if it is a times they have to go.
This is my second experience with Person High School and it has not changed one bit. I agree with the review above it is very racist as is the whole town of Roxboro. You do have some wonderful teachers but normally they don't stay around to long. The school is just like the town it depends on what your last name is and who you Daddy is and thats ashamed. If I had it to do over again I would never have chosen Roxboro for my home town. I am a parent who believes everyone should be treated the same.
The administration doesn't do much to help students with exams, social interaction, and overall grades. Sometimes, it seems like they care more about their salary or reputations than us students. Every once in a while, however, there are good teachers-not many, though.
I feel that Person High School is an ok school. It does not protect my child/children like I think they should. It is overall a very racist school. The white children look down on the blacks. And I feel like that is wrong. There are teachers who treat other students differently because of who they are or who their parents are. Person puts alot of pressure on children. The older teachers are boring while the young teachers add a spike to learning. Don't bring your child here.
Person High School is a great school. It is one that demands excellence from its students on all levels. Unfortunately, because of its rural background many of the students and their parents want to adhere to old ways as opposed to accepting change and allowing the school to move forward. The previous reviews are biased parents/students who had problems with the school and don't fairly represent the level of education students recieve there. Teachers and Staff are excellent. They Care! There used to be a time when the possibility of Senior priviledges/colored tees didn't lead to gang related problems. Parents didn't have to worry whether or not kids were having sex/drug sets,or involved in criminal activity. The more they are in school, the safer they are and the chance of being in a bad situation is reduced. Person High School is voted one of the safest schools because of their rules.
