Gave it too long of a chance after the loss of Dr. Harris; it has not been the same. It seems like each week I learn about more children being mishandled by the incompetent staff there. No need to take concerns to administration, they seem to believe that they are exempt from regulations. Two administrators are gone now, but they should continue to clean house. I'm starting to believe they seek out people with the cloudiest backgrounds to employ, but the great teachers won't stick around. What about the children? If your child is not the child of a board member, administrator, or teacher, you may be in for a big disappointment. My child was victimized there, and there are far too many other innocent examples!!!

Both of my children attend NCS. My oldest has been at this school since day 1 and I must say that it was a God sent. Dr. Harris, who is no longer with us, was the best Director ever. She cared about the students and their education. She put the students first no matter what! She is truly missed. However, today I must say that the legacy that she left behind is not being upheld and it is truly sad! And as far as the 15 persons per teacher, that is no longer the case; it's more like 20-25 persons. That one on one interaction is no longer the case. The awesome, loving, caring teachers are leaving every year. There is a very high teacher turn over rate, which leaves the students hanging on for dear life. Whatever happened to NO CHILD left behind? It should be all about the CHILDREN! Every since the absence of Dr. Harris this school has been going down the drain. I pray that there is a huge turn around for this coming up year. If not they may be in for a rude awakening.

Neuse Charter School is INCREDIBLE! It is a collaboration among the board, administration, staff, and parents. The vision and direction is consistent as it K-12. The school holds high academic standards as a college-preparatory school and families are vested. It is AMAZING what this school has accomplished. We very much look forward to seeing our children graduate from NCS. Go Cougars!

Neuse Charter School is now located in Smithfield, NC. As of 2014, this school will graduate its first group of seniors, making it a K-12 school. The majority of the teachers are PHENOMENAL. They go above and beyond to make sure this school teaches ALL students. Parental involvement, brain based learning and teacher training have all paid off. As a parent, my only concern is the School Board. They are ruthless and are ruining a perfectly good school. Even though my child is in elementary, when I need advice or have a concern, I immediately seek the counsel of the HS Principal, Mr. Erby, as he is the most competent of all three. I would recommend this school to all parents looking for a real education in Johnston county.

I am so happy my son attends this school. Great caring teachers fill the school. My son who is in third grade has learned so much this past year. Worth the drive. Worth the homework. Great opportunities throughout the school and students are challenged not left idle.

Responding to parent comment on location and funding. Location has changed and is now directly across from SSS. As far as funding goes...they get a portion of what state run schools get and have better management of it (currently building high school building).

This is a great school. My children are receiving the education that they needed, and the teachers are great. The classroom size is great. The only problem I have is that they do not provide transportation, but I can deal with that.

So far I couldn't be happier with NCS! My child has only been there a short time, but already I see a 180 degree turn around from our previous school! His teacher is kind & sincerely cares for her students. My son wouldn't even approach his former teacher to ask a question (6 months in her class), but he immediately felt comfortable & began asking for what he needed after only a few hours! He even openly hugs both his primary teacher as well as his TA! He loves going to school again & doesn't even mind waking up earlier to get there. He practically jumps out of the car in the mornings to get to class! It was like pulling teeth to get him to his previous school. He didn't care if he went or not. Now, he doesn't want to be late! I've cried from a JOYFUL HEART of GRATITUDE every day since we have been there that our prayers have been answered for our family!!! Excellent school, teachers, and principal/leadership!!!!....It wouldn't let me rate the categories.

When my son came to this school he was falling in the one that I took him out of. Within a few weeks he was passing everything and the next nine weeks he made the Honor Roll. This school is nothing but excellent and just all around great learning and structual school. I highly give this school a 100 out of a 100.

Neuse Charter has been an answer to our prayers. In a little over 10 weeks of school we have seen our son emerge into a confident, proud, young man who is receiving nothing short of a private school education Coming from an environment where you worried for your child's safety and felt a strong disappointment in educators, Neuse has exceeded all of our hopes and expectations. Our son is able to email his teachers with questions and will always receive a prompt response, he has had an individual learning plan designed for him, he feels proud of his accomplishments and relishes in positive comments from both teachers and fellow classmates. He now has pride in his school. It is unfortunate that this contest is based upon the number of votes received and not for need and results because I would challeng any school to take Neuse Charter on. We are so proud of Neuse and the global staff that takes pride in developing our future leaders, doctors, lawyers, chemists, mathematicians and educators!

My daughter and her family are so pleased with the education, as well as the family atmosphere, as well as the teachers. All schools should be like Neuse Charter school. It is like getting a GOOD private school education - for free..We appreciate the dress code, the rules, that fact that they want to provide students with as much academics, sports, and fun in friendships possible. I am 67, and I cried over what the schools were like today UNTIL NEUSE -- they do everything the new and improved - all fashioned way. I can't thank them enough - my granddaughter is SAFE and LEARNING and happy.

The small campus makes it feel more like a family than a school. The teachers all work so hard to make the school the best! The families that attend NCS are amazing in all that they do - continuously - for the school, the staff and the community. Everyone is always smiling and helpful.

I love that we have teachers from around the world. I love that my 5 and 7 year old can speak not only ENglish, but Chinese and Spanish as well!

We like the small school size and that your child is an individual and not a number. Our child has been able to advance in certain subjects according to test results. Love the dedicated teachers and our forward thinking and great director, Dr. Harris!

Neuse has been a blessing to our family. Our daughter started kindergarten at Neuse and this year will be in second grade. She has excelled at Neuse. The teachers are wonderful and hard working. They love their job and it shows! The director of the school tells the children everyday to strive for excellence. The staff and students will not settle for anything less! Neuse earned honor school of excellence this year, meaning 90% of the students passed the EOGs. In reference to the review below, be careful to judge a book by it's cover. Neuse is relocating to a new location next year. Neuse was recently approved for high school so it will soon be K-12. We are very excited!

Excellent! When visiting schools to enroll our child in kindergarten we visited the classes at all the elementary schools in our area. It was amazing at how much more advanced the kids were! Being from a family of educators and told what to look for I amazed at how much more advanced these kids were. We are very happy! This is the best alternative in the area to a private school in this county!

NCS is now K-8th, it is one of four schools of distinction in Johnston County, they currently offer Latin, Spanish, Chinese, art, music, band, technology, soccer, baseball, basketball, cheer leading, their science program is above average, they scored 100% in science last year, and the school is staffed with teachers that have specialize in working with gifted as well as academically challenge students. On a personal note: I have 4 children, one in the exceptional childrens program, two in the gifted program and one in speech therapy and all of their needs are being met at this NCS.

Ncs was a huge disappointment. The school is underfunded and is in a very bad location. The best decision we made was to leave ncs. However, our child was behind after attending ncs and we didn't realize it until we transferred him back to his other school. Beware of ncs!

The staff and curriculum make NCS the best choice in the area for a challenging and encouraging environment. My children love attending because they have an understanding that the director and the teachers really do care about their performance. They are challenged based on their individual ability. Too many times the high performing students go under the radar and miss their growth potential. At NCS my children have come to realize that it's more than making the 'grade'; it's about growing intellectually, socially and setting goals for themselves. They are learning about how the world works and exploring the opportunities available. The foreign language emphasis has been a huge factor in global awareness. The children learn Chinese and Spanish from creative teachers who bring those countries to life with music, art and stories from around the world. Where else in Johnston County can you find that?!

My children love going to school. The teachers continue to challenge and encourage my children. The school test scores are very strong and lead most schools in the area. NCS thinks outside the box and allows for growth and opportunities not found else where.

My family started this year at NCS and were terribly dissapointed. The principal was rude and good teachers were let go. There has been lot's of turnover in the faculty and with the Board. The location is less than ideal. Selma is not a safe area compaired to the rest of the county.

I am very thankful that my child have NCS to attend. My children are in a safe environment. NCS tailors my children's curriculum to meet their needs. My children are challenged in areas that they are advanced in and are given additional support in areas that they are weak in. I have never been so impressed with a school before. NCS has been a Godsend to my family. My children are now happy to go to school and that means a lot.

N C S has been great for our kids. They are actually being challenged, and are in no risk of getting lost in the shuffle of 900+ students. The staff is very dedicated, and has continually worked through the challenges of starting a school from scratch. Funding is an issue (as it is everywhere), but is being met by creativity.

I am terribly disappointed by NCS. The Board has no idea what they are doing and the school is sorely underfunded. JCS are not the best around but NCS is certainly not an improvement. Stay away!
