As a parent of a special needs child, I always feel I need to review a schools credentials before enrolling my child and I find it very destrubing when I hear from friends in that area, that their special needs child are cleaning tolets and bathrooms instead of learning even the basic reading, writing, or math skills. My friend tells me that, her child comes homes at nights and cries becuase other students sees her in the hallways and ridicules her. After hearing this, my friend goes to the school to resolve the problem, the principal says it was a bad judgement call and that if she wants, the student can work in the office in lieu of cleaning duties. I think it is ridiculous that any school refuses to teach a child becuase he or she has special needs.

West brunswick is an excellent school to attend for the area. Yes, it has it's problems but every school does. It is improving every day and has changed a lot over the four years I have attended. There are some terrible teachers, yes, but the memorable teachers far outweigh. I have had teachers that have left an impact on my life forever. I just had a teacher say to me "I have no doubt that you will be successful. I honestly think you will go very far in life." I haven't had this teacher for two years. It shows they really do care about their students. To all the negative comments: WBHS is a family. We have dealt with many deaths of our peers in just my four years and each time the principal takes time to announce the death of a "family member" and we all come together and get through it. West has left an impact in my life and I will forever be a trojan. If you don't feel this way, maybe you should open your eyes to the beautiful things around you instead of narrowing your vision to just the negative aspects.

School is outstanding. Improves every year since they got the new principal. Scores are high, moral is great, and school is safe and orderly. School has a wonderful college program where students get college credit.

I love teaching at West...we have lots to be proud of: great kids, supportive administration, many opportunites to help kids succeed, talented and devoted staff...

I had the honor of graduating from West in 2007. Go Trojans! We had three different principals during my four years there. I really enjoyed my time at West and I still have a good relationship with most of the teachers I had. Most have either retired or transferred schools but I still keep in contact with them. West, like any school, is whatever you make it. I did anything and everything I could at West to keep myself out of trouble since I come from a single parent household. I took all honors while at West. The teachers were very helpful and a couple of them helped me get into college. The athletics are great and they should be better this year since West is in a different conference. Overall, West is an average school but if you take advantage of the things there it can be an wonderful experience.

My son Love's this school, he's A-B honor roll, jrotc, wrestling. My only real problem is that the wrestling matches are so unorganized, they are to long kids get tried and hungry. Their's got to be a better way. Grandparnet's come to see matches that take up to 7 hrs! Some children still haven got their medals from the matches. But my son love's wrestling.

Sure the administration is nice, but they hardly DO anything for you..other than teach. Let me just say that West does not have many academic opportunities other than the standard curriculums that are given to them...and that they tend to focus on sports too much. I would love to see some improvements. Also, the school lunch is terrible (many high school luches are), some restrooms smell like ciggaret smoke, and of course, there are drugs, drama, and profanity. Not overly-much, but still. It is really easy to become very bored there, not much goes on...other than the hype over the football game...

I have found the school to foster a wonderful attitude toward learning. The school climate has changed. The kids love the school, attendance is climbing, scores are rising, and it's become the best school in the area.

Almost every teacher I had at West was extremely helpful. I didn't fail a single class and stayed out of trouble. It's not hard but my parents set ground rules, which some parents don't do. I love the teachers there! Keep up the good work Trojans!!

An academic void. Teacher turnover hovers near 45%, test scores are abysmal, and there is no identifiable school spirit among the students who are forced to attend (no surprise there). My kid is ashamed to go there.

The administration does not help parents with teacher interaction. Some teachers in this school are not interested in helping parents or students. They believe if they hand out the 'what I want from you' sheet and place assinments on the board, well it is no longer their problem.. Your kid must be stupid!

I am also a concerned parent who MUST monitor my children's education. Although I find the staff and teachers to be weak, this is a trickle-down effect from Administration.

I would like to say that WBHS overall is a great school to attend, in an absolutely wonderful part of the country, the South Brunswick Islands are both beautiful and peaceful for families, that is the reason we have relocated away from the 'big city issues' in Ohio. Problems occur at any school across this great country. One thing I want to comment on if I may, upon reading the reviews, I don't know if it is an indictment of WBHS, or the American educational system, there are several words used erroneously and misspelled. i.e. 'awsome','your selfs','there instead of their','negetive','priciple instead of principal','is discriminating instead of is discriminatory.' One student misspelled or used 8 out of forty words out of context, 20%, read them all and you will see. I am not an education professional but maybe ENGLISH should be a top priority?

I have three children in WBHS. I feel that the academics are good for the majority but for the kids that need extra help it isn't always there. I have called and left messages with the principle and the counselors and have NEVER had them returned. I feel that this is a huge problem. If I need to know something about one of my children i go to the attendance office and speak to mrs. Ludlum because she knows more about the kids than anyone else in the school.

I think That West brunswick high school is one of the worst schools in Brunswick county. I think they should just tear it down because the staff is horrible and the justice system is discriminating and i believe it to be the worst school my children have ever attended, that's why I have removed them from that pathetic example of an educational facility.

I have three children that attended WBHS for four years each and graduated. The school is a wonderful school with highly trained teachers. The office staff, custodians, teachers and administrators were very caring, professional and considerate of the needs of each individual child. Unfortunately there is in every school students that try to destroy the learning process and parents of those students are always downing the school. On the upscale there are extracurricular activities and clubs for every student that wishes to become involved. I feel that my children all received an excellent education and encouraged to further their education after high school.

This school needs some help for the average student. Thank goodness that my daughter is a senior this year and has also been in the honor curriculum. Students are not learning all that is needed that is why the SAT scores are down. I have had to constantly monitor my daughters education though the years because no one was really there to guide her. I am working very hard on college material for her and feel that the guidance dept offers very little assistance. I feel that all the schools in Brunswick County need some serious help.

I'm not a parent, but I must rebuttle against the review saying that West Brunswick has a huge drug problem. I attended West Brunswick all four years of high school, and yes there are kids who do drugs out there, but it is no worse than any other school. The teachers try to get to know the students and help them when they realize they need help. When it comes to the administration, Mr. Horne is a wonderful asst. principal. He gets to know the students and helps them whenever possible. It isn't unlikely to go through a school day and not hear him call many by name.

Like so many schools, West Brunswick has a HUGE drug problem!! And I find that some of the teachers are wonderful professionals, but others are racist and poor examples of what a teacher should be. The administration is exceptionally poor at communication with the parents of students who are in need. In three years, I only received ONE return phone call after I left five messages. And this was a guidance counselor!
