SCE puts on a great facade for parents and the community, but as a staff member, it is evident that SCE has many shortcomings. SCE does have wonderful, dedicated teachers. Unfortunately, many teachers do not trust other teachers with their students. This creates an environment in which teachers do not share resources, curriculum across grade levels is inconsistent, morale is low, and paranoia is high. Discipline at the school is a problem for many teachers. Student expectations are unclear, and teachers receive little support from administration in both extreme and everyday discipline situations. Pressure on the school to succeed on EOG tests places a specific disadvantage on low achieving students at SCE. During retest, administrators mandate that students with the best chance of passing be placed into small groups (4 or 5) to be tutored by experienced teachers, and the lowest scoring students are placed into large groups to review with less experienced teachers. Essentially, students who need the most help at this school receive the least. Bottom line: the teachers work here because they are passionate about teaching, but politics get in the way of this school's success.

The student diversity at Siler City Elementary reflects today's society, which prepares our students for the real world. I am a teacher and a parent and I would not trade the education my daughters received at SCE for anything.

Siler City Elementary is an amazing school! The staff, administrators, teachers, and most of all students are amazing. They all work together to make the best school possible for everyone. The teachers and administrators promote and implement best practice teaching through on going professional development and tremendous support. Everyone does their best to do what is best for the most important aspect of the school, the students! Siler City Elementary has taught me what I should look for in a great school, so far no other school can compare!

I love this school, I did my student teachin intership there. The teachers are amazing there, they care sooo much about the students and go above and beyond in all they do. Some of the teachers even did an unpaid summer school this past summer because the state/county didnt have funds to pay them but they still wanted the students to have all the opportunites they could give them. The students there are also great, in return they put in hard work for their teachers despite often having harsh home lifes. The principal is also amazing, she knows everyone, the students names, the teachers, the interns, she really gets out there in her school getting involved and bringing the most up to date and 'best practices' to Siler City classrooms.

Teachers work together to meet the needs of a culturally and economically diverse group of students. We also have a dual language program where half of students daily instruction is in Spanish and half is in English. The class is divided into half native English speakers and half native Spanish speakers so both groups can contribute to learning each other's language and cultures.

The faculty and staff at Siler City Elementary School are dedicated to seeing that all children receive the highest quality instruction using research based best practices. The children are loved and cared for by each adult in the school and the needs of the 'whole child' are addressed. There is so much more to SCE than meets the eye! It's the best kept secret in Chatham County Schools.

The teachers are great when come to the students. But the principle and the school bus are not doing their job at all.
