If your child has any type of special need do not count on this school to pro actively address/assist them or you as the parent. Do not put too much faith into what you are told. They do not follow through.

I have two children in this school. I have not been happy with the treatment of my oldest. The teachers are young and inexperienced; if your child doesn't fit into the exact criteria of a "normal" child, they're not equipped to help. The administration is horrible. I've still yet to see the actual principal. The assistant principal must do it all. Not all, but most of the teachers are first year teachers who've had zero experience with children. It is an insane maze inside the building and the exterior flow of traffic is a nightmare; the car rider area is shared with the bus lot. I did give it two stars, however, because there is a handful of nice staff who are truly wonderful ladies.

My son is in his fourth year of East Iredell Elementary's Spanish language Dual Immersion program, and our experience so far has been excellent. Each of his teachers have been open and communicative, fair and effective. As a volunteer, I frequently witness not just his teachers, but the entire staff teaching, serving and loving these students. Our principal is an outstanding advocate for our students and our staff; she is highly visible in the school, she is accessible and she welcomes input from staff, students and parents alike. We are a very diverse school, with students hailing from more than 20 countries, giving our students an opportunity to learn firsthand about other cultures. We celebrate this each year with our annual Diversity Night festival - one of the highlights of the school year! I would especially encourage parents of rising Kindergarteners to visit the school and learn about the Dual Immersion program. I cannot speak highly enough of this opportunity - it is amazing to see these children becoming truly bilingual, and it will most assuredly serve them well as they continue their education and eventually seek career opportunities.

My son is currently entering the 5th grade successfully completing each grade except for kindergarten. He only had to repeat kindergarten because his birthday allowed him to start school early and maturity wise they thought he needed another year before starting first grade. With that being said, this is one of the best schools my son has attended and unfortunately because we have had to move several times since he became school age he has gone to 7 different schools. He not only had some of the best grades last year at EIE, he had no complaints about the school or his teacher, something we had to address in the past years at other schools. The only complaint I have is the elderly woman at the front desk in the office needs to work on her office skills. She pulled my son out of class one day so that my boyfriends ex-wife could get the house key from him. Clearly, this was not handled correctly! I spoke to her about this. I don't know if she holds resentment about that conversation, but yesterday 8/22/13 she was very rude to me at the beginning and end of orientation. Other than that, this school is great and I would recommend it to anyone moving into the area!

East Elementary is a wonderful school with great teachers and staff, my 3 children have gone to this school and one of them is a Civil Engineering student in college and one is in the top 10 of her class in high school. My third child was there last year and is in AIG at the middle school, we have had great teachers at East! It is a wonderful brand new facility and you really get out of the school what you put into it! If I had to go back again, my children would definitely attend East Iredell Elementary!

I have twins that attend East Elementary School and so far we are having a great experience. The diversity of the school and the great teaching staff have made us feel right at home. East is like any other school, you get out of it what you put into it.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
