This school is wonderful, we have had four children attend this school and it is by far my most favorite! The staff, for the most part is stellar, my only complaint is the office staff seems unapproachable or stand-offish. The 2009/10 school year will be the last year for our youngest child to attend, and I will really miss attending activities with my child at this school

My review of the two years my son spent at JCT is that this school is very poor in Prinicple leadership, teacher quaility, extra curricular activities, parental involvement. In general when I think of Beaufort County Schools and the 3 yrs I have been associated with it...it is like a maze. There in no information sharing, PTA or PTO is held when most of us are working. The teachers expect a 8 or 9 yr olds to keep the parents informed of the activities. I understand that it's important that the children learn responsibility, however it is also important that adults/teachers/mentors understand that a child's development occur at different intervals. While one child might be very responsible and write down everything, bring all papers home, never lose a book or a letter, there are children who are not as capable. And not everyone has access to the internet!

This school is fantastic. The facilities are a little dated, but the overall committment to educating our children and making them feel good about themselves more than makes up for it. The staff is completely dedicated to doing what is best for our kids. The only complaint I have is that the lunches are gross. But that goes for all the Beaufort County Schools. Just pack your kid a lunch, and send them on...you won't regret it. It's a great school.

I have two children attending John Cotten Tayloe and I couldn't be happier. What makes it a great school? Happy people, quality leadership, top-notch teachers who love what they do - it shows, a well-organized school and curriculum, communication with parents in the form of nightly homework assignments and reading (I know exactly what they are learning), weekly progress reports, an accelerated reading log that I sign nightly. My children are covering a lot of material and they are enjoying it too. The teachers are all on the same page. Parents get involved. To walk the halls is to see a bright and cheery place, though the facility has some age on it. My children are happy each day when they come home and I am amazed at the ways their teachers are getting them excited about learning. Art, music, PE, computer lab, accelerated math, this school has it all.
