West End Elementary is a good school. My son is in kindergarden, and they have a great reading teacher that I think has really helped my son to progress with his reading. Also the school kept getting new students, and when his class became over corwded they created a new kindergarden/first grade combination class.....at first I was apprenhisive to moving him three months into the school year, but smaller class rooms seem to work better and the teacher is good.
The teachers are excellent, friendly and give constant feedback on the students' progress. WEE has a strong PTA and a great sense of community. I feel confident that my child is getting a great education and he is also having a lot of fun.
West End Elementary is a good school and the teachers try hard in their jobs. Sometimes the emphasis on EOG scores is overdone, but you can find this throughout North Carolina. The pressure to perform is great for students, and they get weary of it, especially at the end of the year. West End is a small town and nepotism is big with parents and teachers. Overall, it's a good school and the academics are first class.
My child has been at w.e.e. for the past three years. We have been pleased with the school and staff thus far. The teachers that I have met and that my child has worked with have all been exceptional in their teachings and in communicating with me. As a parent that wants to be involved with my child's education I have found the p.t.a. to be somewhat disappointing and disorganized. I also argree with what as been written below, they do spend too much time focusing on the E.O.G.s rather than individual developement.
This school has grown and became overcrowded that more trailers had to be added. I feel the classes especially 4th and 5th grade need to reduce the number of students for one teacher that has no assistant so each student can get more attention for their needs. I also don't think recess should be taken away from 4th and 5th graders because it's important they get the exercise and fresh air they need. Overall, this school is a great school with wonderful hard working teachers and volunteers who care about the students.
I feel West End Elementary is a good school. The down side is that they focus to much on the end of the grade tests every year than they do students overall achievemnet and individuality. I feel the school has gone down slighty in the last few words. Overall though, I am happy with the school.
