I've been going to West Pine for 3 years now, and I have to say it's defiantly not my favorite school I've even been to, and I've been to about 8-10 different schools since preschool. I know that sounds silly but it's true, since 6th grade I have had 6 different science teachers, they are terrible at hiring new teachers, because all of them are always "new", as in that being their first teaching job. And when I do have experienced teachers, 2 out of 5 times they are any good. I think I have only 2 teachers out of my 15 (Yup, 15 instead of the normal 12, all because they are terrible at keeping a student on 4 teachers a year) different teachers that have actually improved my grades from the previous year. Recently I have received my first C. I was an all A student until I came here and are still decreasing. This school (and most schools in Moore county) are really good at making you feel either really smart or really stupid. You can clearly tell who got the better teacher (and learning supplies) based on grades and money. My 7th grade year I was placed in the so called "smart group" and let me tell you, it was defiantly my best year in middle school. This school is not recommended.

"Doctor.........Doctor............Doctor Turk you are being paged to the office to see a patient." All joking aside anyone going to this school needs to be suspect of a post about the principal which this "parent" praises how well "Doctor"Turk is doing, this and that, which is apparent that she is, since she has no time to return emails and phone calls according to the other parents. Some may wonder why I am being so critical, well let's recount my daughters interaction with said principal Mrs. Turk earlier this week. Principal:" Hello I am Doctor Turk" My daughter: 'Hello Mrs. Turk" MrsTurk: "No, It's Doctor..." Give me a &*&^%^ing break is she really building her superiority complex on the tears of children??? My kid doesn't care if you are a doctor or not, she was being curtious by calling her Mrs. Turk. Mrs. Turk can keep her ego on the wall next to her certicicate and diploma, then realize her audience she is interacting with. This is such a great beginning to the school year!! I just can't wait for the rest of the year and the fruits it will bear!!

Yes, the school has great opportunities for kids, but I also agree with the comment that the teachers often do not return e-mails about concerns or they take their time doing so. Also, my daughter has had brand new teachers every year. I would like to see some more veteran teachers. The teachers were not bad, but just not as experienced as I would like.

Dr. Turk is a wonderful principal who leads a caring and dedicated staff. Dr. Turk makes you feel like your child is the only one in the school. All questions and concerns are addressed and taken seriously. Each child is treated like an individual with an individual academic plan. Great school for gifted learners who need to go ahead. Many sports, clubs, and activities to appeal to everyone. School is also calm and orderly. We are very impressed!

The school has a great rating and it is well-deserved. There are many opportunuities for the students to learn and grow. The encores are wonderful. On the down side, teachers do not answer e-mails or answer with only one-line comments. The principal herself does not return phone calls or e-mails. I find this ironic since the school says communication is key. In this world of technology, there is no excuse not to answer concerned parents.

I have two children at West Pine and I am proud to say it is a wonderful school and has been a positive experience for both my children and myself. After reading several reviews (mostly from students) I will say that yes, our former principal DID run a tight ship, however, he was respected and the students knew they couldn't pull anything over on him. As a mother I appreciated knowing my girls were safe and had no fear of violence or drugs. The 6th grade teachers do a terrific job of helping the students adjust to middle school. We have never had a problem with any teacher in the past 3 years, they are wonderful and well prepared. Strong athletics program as well. Lots of opportunities to volunteer which is a great way to meet some of the parents of the children your kids are hanging out with.

I think West Pine is a great school with teachers that entertain the students with a fun way of learning. It is always clean and safe. West Pine Middle was recently named a School to Watch. I am a proud student of West Pine Middle. :)
