It is hard to give this school a rating as there are so many different aspects that play along with a rating. Walking into the school I do not get the warm fuzzies. The office staff, administration, and teachers as a whole look miserable. I am not greeted with a warm welcoming, a wave or even a smile. The stories my child comes home with are all over the place. He is scared of the aides at the school as they yell, and belittle. They are like drill sergeants trying to control an army. They are little kids, not criminals - cut them some slack, or perhaps Surrey should send them to training on how to properly handle little kids. Even though he fears the aides, he has really enjoyed the teachers he has had while attending Surrey. They have always done their best to advance him and give him opportunities to excel. (If it weren't for the teachers I would give this school a 1 star, only because 0 star isn't an option.) Every year my son is sad when he comes to school in August to see that many teachers have left and there are new ones in their place. It leaves him feeling uneasy and worried about the upcoming year. It feels as if this school is a trainer school, once teachers are good enough to go to a bigger district they leave, or perhaps their faces tell the story and they are truly miserable to begin with and leave their first chance out the door. This turn over doesn't provide for a safe environment for students as they never know what teacher they are going to have from year to year. My child no longer attends Surrey; there are other schools so close to Surrey that I would recommend more just due to the miserable environment that has been created there. Send your child to Minot, Sawyer, Velva, Granville - There are options!

We are military and this by far not the worst school our children have attended. It is like any other very small school. There is an advantage to the children who attend. They are not just a face in the crowd. But the down side there are no, or few, classes for your child to switch to if they are having problems. The good news is the teachers work very hard for thier students including after school help. I am a vocal parent and have been over- all happy with the school, but it did seem to take more meetings than was necessarry at times. The administration is always willing to listen. This is a community that does not consider college a priority, but Surrey has worked very hard to provide college minded students with opportunities to help them get there. My only real complaint: the 6pt grade scale.

I hate this school. The teachers are lazy. I have nothing good to say about this school.
