I'm thankful that we found Summit Academy for my son. He has asperger's and excelled at the school. He loved the therapeutic martial arts and it taught him discipline. The small classes also helped him concentrate. Teachers and staff have training with adhd and aspie kids and treat them with respect and seem to understand them, public schools seem to lack this.
Substandard academics (only core subjects) does not work for Aspies with higher intelligence; SOME staff okay-others a problem; Lack of consideration on an individual basis in spite of what they say. Refusal to offer social graduation in spite of law saying otherwise. Building a joke. No regard for sensory issues (one room having 32 working clocks - talk about a sensory nightmare); required security guard in 2010-2011 school year for less than 50 kids.
The school does not have art, sports, or music! The school does have some extracurricular activities, but not good ones. The education at Summit Academy is bad. Now the safety at Summit Academy is good.
