My children have been students at St Mary School since 2003, and we have been pleased overall with the education they have received and the overall atmosphere of the school. There is a new principal as of 2008-2009 school year, and he has been a good addition. Standards of behavior and discipline are high while remaining a supportive atmosphere. Technology is a priority with 2 moble computer labs, and smart boards in most classrooms. Students are encouraged to compete in athletics through the CYO program as well as in academic competitions. The arts are supported with vocal music and instrumental music for 4th - 8th grades, and drama club. In addition, field trips for other theatrical events are offered. Spiritual development is supported with prayer, Mass attendance, and other activities. Classes are small and children receive individual attention.
I have been very happy with not only the level of educaton at St. Mary school, but the faculty, students and many families we have come to know. Our children are very happy at St. Mary school and the teacher/student ratio is very good.
As a new family to St Mary we have enjoyed seeing our child blossom in this wonderful school atmosphere. They have given her great self confidence and a joy in learning. We are very impressed to see all the latest technology being used in the classrooms and the attention that is given to all subject matters. The parents truly put forth a great effort to build on a strong family foundation. We have felt the support of teachers, aides, staff, administration and parishioners. We have enjoyed plays, talent shows, sporting events, science fairs, concerts, family mass, family dinners, school picnics, class outings and some rather fun fundraisers. We have seen the students come together during tragedy and triumph. It is a wonderful atmosphere and a brillant place to learn.
The standards are not enforced by the administration here. In fact, the principal will even force teachers to provide accomodations to children who do not qualify for them. It is not how hard you work at this school or how smart a student is that dictates success here, it is their last name. Their mission statement says, 'stives to achieve academic success,' but should say, 'stives to accomodate academic deficits by covering them up.' The few families that supported high academic standards have left, and [some] of the staff left this year as well because of the administration. Another poor point is that administration does not recognize students' acheivements, attend events, or support their teachers. It is an unhealthy environment for staff, parents and especially students. I am lucky my daughter had two wonderful teachers for her last two years here who did not conform to the norms of Saint Mary's.
My daughter is in her 2nd year at St. Mary's and I am so pleased with the school. I would highly recommend this wonderful place to any parent who wants the best for their child. A++++++++++ is my grade for this school.
My child is now in his third year at St. Mary's. I am so pleased with education he is receiving. We love the sense of community. The principal is warm and open to comments. The teachers bend over backwards for my child. I will send my youngest child there also.
