Indian Trail Elementary welcomes personal growth, stability and a sense of security to all of our children. Mrs. Downing, all the teachers and staff are compassionate and true educators. They go beyond the call of duty and treat the children as if their own. Not only am I grateful but thankful of finding such a wonderful and enriching environment for our children. Take a bow, you deserve it............
I left the school district for one year and came back for my son to start fourth grade. My son has never been happier. The one year away from Canal my son struggled so bad. Id reccomend this school to anyone that cares about their childs education
My daughter is a student at Indian trail as a second grader. She has had great teachers since she has been in this school. She has had the privelage of beng in some of the advanced classes. I really have enjoyed her experience with Indian Trail.
Good school, my kids are doing well and the staff has been very gracious and kind. No school system is perfect, and that includes Canal Winchester. That said, I find the teachers, staff and the principle all seem to care deeply about the quality of education the children receive while attending CW schools. Every teacher my children have had has been helpful and eager to provide help and their services whenever and however they can. I am sure being a teacher is a difficult job, as I know because all parents are also teachers to their own children. But to be a teacher to everyone s children, not just your own, is one of the most challenging, yet extremely important, jobs in the world.
unfortunately this school is not placing the funding they do receive on programs that are a high priority when it comes to educating our children. It is understandable that with a growing community there will be a need for larger schools, extra teachers etc. But what about the kids that are there whose educational needs aren't being met do to improper planning or forethought. When it is discovered that a child needs more than standard classroom time and you have a program for that, but because of a lack of room in that class. just shuffle them in with the rest hoping they'll catch up, without any strategy. As they fall behind mid way through the year sugest something for the following year. That's just sloppy. Sometimes when the funds aren't there you have to get creative, not reckless.
I wanted to say that this school has the support of a lot of good people in the community. The principal seems very unhelpful. She will fool you at first by a smile, but you will soon find that anything you ask will be ignored. She does not seem to inspire her teachers to rise to the level they need to be to make a career, not just a job.. Many teachers might be good, but will not give the extra the children need. The system allows children to pass who do not understand the content of the subjects. Be cautious also of the guidance person as she is pleasant but not helpful when it comes to children with learning problems.
I love Canal Winchester Schools, my main concern that I am currently trying to address with the staff and principals, is the admission of unauthorized individuals into the school. My relatives and I pick up/drop off my son regularly or come into the school for various reasons-volunteering, etc and are never asked our names or for ID. I have even requested the office ask for ID whenever anyone comes to pick up my child, they seem to ignore my request. With child abduction and the terrible stories in the news, they should be more cautious and careful with our children....
I think the elementary school is great. They encourage you to volunteer and I always feel welcome in the building. They have changed the KG schedule to half days, so it is not so confusing any more(but it was!) Whenever I have had concerns they have been promptly dealt with.
Poorly ran, very little comunication between teachers and parents, confusing KG schedule.
