The high school is awful. Half the teachers are awful at teaching and kids become extremely stressed and depressed due to how pressured the kids are to do good. The school itself is a prison and the rules are WAY too strict. The dress code is ridiculous and body-shaming.

My family had a bad experience with a first grade teacher who was unable to recognize that my child had a developemental disability that caused him to act differently than the other children. We were accused of being poor parents until my son received his diagnosis from the specialist. This has been the only poor teacher that we have had. Our life was miserable for that year. To be fair, there have been many good things that have happened for us since. My hope is that all teachers be trained to recognized special needs children in the younger grade classes who may not have been to the proper doctors.

I have three children(one in each school) at SR. Academically it is average but they do teach those achievement tests well ! The best program at SR is music/band. I feel with all of the taxes we pay here, our kids should learn more than just how to pass a test. They really are no better than several of the surrounding schools. Again, kudos to the Venesky's and Mr. D .

I received a quality education from South Range High School, however athletics seemed to be at the top of many people's list. Support should've been spread throughout the other extracurricular activities not just the athletics. Programs like; Speech Team, Drama, Music (this program is top notch), Home Ec. Club, PANDA, etc... When I attended South Range High School I would've like FFA and Industrial Arts as offered courses.

The quality of education is evidenced by the 'excellent' rating obtained year after year from the state's report card. The 'no child left behind' policy is in practice at this school. More than just providing an education, the educators & administrative staff care about each & every student. An overwhelming majority of students participate in multiple extracurricular activities. The music program is top notch. While the level of parental involvement diminishes somewhat from the middle school & elementary levels, it is still actively recruited & greatly appreciated & valued. The prinicpal is sure to be found in attendance at nearly every school event, home or away, he can be counted on to be a fierce advocate for his students in constantly seeking to obtain the most up to date educational tools to keep his students competitive.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Ohio used the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) to test students in grade 10 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. State averages displayed on public school profiles include public schools only. State averages displayed on private school profiles include private schools only. The OGT is a high school graduation requirement for public schools and chartered private schools. The OGT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Ohio. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

About the tests

Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.

About the tests

In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.
