The education standards and quality of teaching is not up to par. You live in a district that demonstates social stratifcation. Teachers are more concerned about their place in the society than teaching children a quality education. There are private schools in the area where your children will receive an excellent education. The children in public school in this area are let down by poor education standards and low quality educators.

Weller is an excellent school. The teachers challenge all students, regardless of their abilities. After transferring from another school, I was amazed at how much my gifted child was learning.

Weller Elementary has given our family mixed results. It really comes down to the teacher. Communication is as good as the parent gets involved. Some teachers have a very relaxed atmosphere where some students who are not discipline problems, get the least amount of attention. Be sure to get recommendations from friends/neighbors regarding 1st grade teachers. Our daughter who is very bright, however, she needed extra help with reading. Her teacher never caught this until test results came back, I had even specifically asked. The school has very high standards which is great, but a child with mediocre problems can get left behind. Just make sure the teacher communicates specifically about your child on a monthly basis. With reading intervention, she is doing great...her 2nd grade teacher is tutoring during the summer to get her to her potential. School is wonderful, careful of particular teachers.
