The 2014-2015 school year is our 1st at St Mary School. We transferred our children from a small (under 160 students) parochial school. The transition has been pleasant & smooth. The whole St. Mary Community has been supportive and welcoming. Our children are happy and thriving socially, spiritually, and academically. Our son is in the middle school/Junior high program and we are very impressed with the academics, teachers, field trips, community service opportunities, and enrichment programs that are offered to 6th - 8th graders. The middle school students are always challenged in a positive way. The students are respectful to each other AND their teachers. St. Mary School is a feeder school to some of the top high schools in the area. We are so happy with our decision to send our children to St. Mary School. It is a good fit for our family and meets our expectations regarding Catholic Education. We live in Clifton Gaslight and yellow bus service is offered to the families in CG & North Avondale.
Academic Standards are high for this 3 time Blue Ribbon School. Catholic Identity is strong - with close to 90 percent of student body being Catholic. SMSHP draws many students from as far east as Mt. Washington/Turpin to Centrally located students residing in Downtown, Mt. Adams, North Avondale, Clifton Gaslight, and Oakley/Norwood. The majority of students come from the Hyde Park area. The school has a lot of school spirit. Several sports and extracurriculars are offered year round. Hard to fall thru the cracks or be a shrinking violet at SMS - Many social and/or volunteer opportunities for students and their families. School is far from small with around 500 students.
This school is the best school for any student who wants a great education. The atmosphere is wonderful and the students are supportive of each other. They all live the school motto and study and work hard. It is a great environment. When you take a tour at Open House, you don't get the staff to do it, you get great student volunteers who happily give up their time to be great people to fall in love with the school just as they did. Even if you can't make it to their Open House, you can check out their annual festival "Funfest" and see the students work in booths or just having fun. Most graduates of St. Mary go to Catholic high schools: they get over $300,000 in scholarships. They all go to a Mass at the end of their time at St. Marys and the principal and staff award even more scholarships to those students who did outstanding commitments to service and their academic goals and visions. There's no end to the nice, caring, community that is St. Mary School. This school is absolutely one to ask your friends or neighbors about, plus drop in one day for a tour. You'll abosolutely fall in love with the students, faculty, and caring environment.
