My 4 children have attended St. Vivian for the past 3 years. Prior to that they attended our local public school. The year my children started at St V, a new principal took over and he is incredible. St V's has a great learning environment, good academics, sports, and music program. They have some outstanding teachers (and one or two who are not). Overall, we have been pleased with St V. It seems like the leadership along with the parish and school families are committed to improving St V and making it the best it can be. The class rooms recently had AC units installed and upgrades in technology/computers. Although the staff is not diverse - the student body is. The only real area of improvement that is needed is in the cafeteria's food choices. Not alot of healthy choices.
It shocks me to see that St. Vivian only has a 3 star rating. I am not sure of what things were like before Mr. Z. But I can personally say that this is a great school, the teachers really take the time to get to the students provide them with a challenging curriculum. They are also great at communicating things with parents, through the use of technology. The school is very diverse and welcoming of student from diverse backgrounds
St. Vivian's has a new principal who is very energized and knows all the kids and their families. My child has really blossomed after attending St. Vivians. The class always seems to have parent involvement and teachers are alwasy willing to discuss my child's progress with me.
I absolutely love St Vivian. The teachers and principal know both myself, husband and my kids by name. I always feel welcome when coming into the school and there are plenty of activites for parental and child involvement. I feel the school has a good amount of diversity. The teachers seem to know my children as an individual and what he/she needs in the classroom.
We have been extremely pleased with our experience at St Vivian School. The principal is amazing, the teachers are nurturing but firm, and the student body is beautifully diverse. My husband and I have also been impressed by the level of parent involvement in school activities. The St V community has been welcoming, friendly and down-to-earth.
We have a new principal this school year and I feel he has dramatically changed the school for the better!!! He knows not only my childs' name, but also my other children as well (who are not of age to attend St V) All the extras St V brings makes it enjoyable for my child. Teachers seem very attentive to help with each child's learning style and also range of learning.
I'm glad that my children are no longer students at St. Vivian - ther is a HUGE problem with bullying - girls are the worst - and no one wants to acknowledge the fact that this problem exists.
A great school, it really prepares you for later in life. Saint Vivian rocks! We get to do a lot of fun stuf including: track and field day, walk a thon, math and science night, and icecream socials. People are very welcoming too.
The school just recently incorporated Algebra I in the 7th grade curriculum. This came after several years of feedback from parents trying to promote a higher level of math achievement. It was a change for the better. Four teachers teach the core subjects to the 7th and 8th grade students. This means that 7th graders will have the same team of teachers in the 8th grade. This is very positive for continuity as students enter the 8th grade. In the 1st quarter, discipline problems are minimized, and academics are stronger because this team of teachers knows the entering 8th grade students.
There is a huge bullying problem at st vivians, despite the existence of a bullying policy. It is no longer a safe learning environment.
Our school is a great place for students and their families. The Principal and teachers will always take time to listen to your concerns, then follow up if necessary. The auxilliary service personnel are topnotch-nurse, speech, instructional specialist and school psych. All students are known by name by most of the staff. Test scores are well above average. There is diversity among students and faculty. The PTA and Boosters (sports) are very active. Transferring students usually comment that they feel welcomed.
academics have gone down. The pastor could care less about affairs involving the school. I am glad we are almost done here. I would not send a child here.
The voucher students have much difficulty keeping up with academics compared to the rest of the school population. The pastor of the church is not very endearing to the students which is unfortunate. They have a bullying policy with no follow through. At times the school can be very unfair. The sports activities are extremely unfair due to over zealous parents.
As a parent, I have seen the academic atmosphere and results plummet in the last 3-4 years. What was once a strong academic program (esp. math) has really changed for the worse. I feel that the general atmosphere of the school has changed dramatically. The principal has little regard for the students' needs and is instead concerned with how she will 'look' given a specific situation,
If your chold has any type of learning disability this school is not for you.
