We love it. We have a 6th grader in OCA right now. I'm a SAHM, so time isn't an issue. He works or ahead or slows down. It's completely up to him. The materials are excellent. We've never had a problem.
This is AWFUL!! Will NOT be re-enrolling my child. The "teacher" has created so much confusion and this just isn't worth my child's confidence. They are already saying they would rather repeat 5th grade or go back to their old school. I regret ever doing this.
i agree k 12 is much better, my son was there and went back to his school, then tried renrolling, but enrollment closed, so had to chose ohio connections academy, very disappointed in lack of teacher assistance, complicated learing, subjects and homework,,k12 is much better, and closer contacts and group gatherings, im in elyria ohio, sandusky closest site for OGT testing, what a apin, will probably be reenrolling in k12 asap
My son is on his 3rd year and is in 9th grade. We had amazing support from an intervention specialist we just love the previous years. Because he is in high school h e is expected to work independently and even dropped a course without my approval. He has Aspergers and really lacks in social interaction. They have VERY little community events especially in our immediate area. Ive tried connecting with other groups on Yahoo but everything is an hour drive for us. We are in Youngstown. I am considering Ohio Virtual Academy k12. Anyone have some advice? Also i find the website a pain to navigate and information about assighments are not easy to find.
The curriculum is good but I am disappointed in the lack of services offered to a child with disabilities such as Autism. Basically I am told to do it all myself... this is not what I was told before enrolling my children.
The first year, I was skeptical. I saw the curriculum and thought this was just too much for my children. I decided to give it a try and my children proved to me they could handle it with ease and mastery. I was astonished. They are happier, more confident, and this school keeps our family closer. We get to see first-hand what our children are struggling in and immediately we have the help they need to succeed and master any subject. This school is 'awesome' as both my children say.
Ohio Connections Academy was the best choice we made for our daughter. We started in the middle of the school year it was easy to do. They sent us all materials needed quickly. The teachers were great, called when we needed answers. It was nice to get to meet some teachers during OAT week. She will be returning for High School.
Ohio Connections Academy is the best academic decision I could ever make for my children. The teachers are great, and I have found that the teachers are very helpful, and make the time for each student. I also like how advanced the curriculum is. I like how they also use the old fashioned grading system instead of the mastery grading. I don't like the mastery grading scale that OHVA uses. I will always love OCA.
I have been with Ohio Connections Academy since 2004 when my oldest child entered kindergarten. I now have two students enrolled, and they are both thriving. My oldest is actually entering the gifted and talented program next year, and my youngest is head and shoulders above her friends who attend brick and mortar schools. The individualized attention that you are able to give each student is a wonderful benefit that doesn't exist in traditional public schools. A parent must be willing to devote some energy toward the program to be successful, but it is well worth it. I highly recommend this program to anyone who has the ability and circumstances to implement the program, which can vary from 3 to 6 hours a day, depending on the student.
This is my second year with Connections. My son was getting further behind every year at the B&M school he attended. His self esteem was being torn down there. Since being with Connections I have seen his self esteem improve tremendously. He is also getting closer to the goal we set for him. The teachers have all been supportive and even this year he has received several things in the mail from his teacher. The live lessons and phone calls are great. I would recommend this school to any parent. This school is a great fit for out family.
