For years I have homes schooled my son and was always worried he would fall behind, so I decided to look into online schools. My son is a student that has to always be kept interested in a subject or he gets bored. So after looking at all the reviews and ratings and talking with parents from other online schools, I decided this school was for my son. I could not be happier I was so impressed, the first day of school we got a call to welcome us and ask if we needed any help. I was amazed at the time and effort they put forward to a better education for our children. My son is very happy, if you want an amazing school enroll in this one.
This is our 1st year with Gifted and talented classes. I have to say that they are very enriching for my 8 year old. He is well above the average student his age and as a result his education is geared specifically for him. He would not get this at the brick and mortar school. We checked. He would have been placed with older children. This was not a choice for us. Here he is with his peers.
When I first enrolled our children we started with our older two. They were very accomplished students, but the issue for us was their safety. The children at their school displayed a lot of violence that year once the school board integrated both middle school together. The work was more challenging, and what used to be a breeze to the girls seemed more challenging. They liked like. The whole system of learning was so helpful, easily accessible, and fun! Nothing like a brick and mortar (too bad). The following year we noticed our third grader lagging behind. We decided to pull her out and home school. She couldn't even form a sentence during writing. I was so shocked. In third grade I remember doing book reports. After testing we realized she was behind on everything. In 5 months with OCA our girl caught up, and can now write a book report! How awesome is that! This year I pulled our special needs son from public school, and OCA is working with me through his IEP, ETR, and testing. Logan has mid to high functioning autism. I am so excited to get a chance to work with him. We also have a daughter starting Kindergarten. Yes, this year we will have 5 children enrolled in OCA.
We love OCA! We have our son (10th grader) and daughter (3rd grader) enrolled this year, our 4th year with OCA. Our oldest daughter graduated with honors in 2012 after transferring from the local B&M in her Junior year. The teachers are great, always ready to help in any way via webmail, phone, or even live-lesson room help. We love seeing them and the other OCA kids at field trips. I love being so involved in my kids' education - it's a huge investment in time, but so worth it to be able to have learning be more than just lessons at school - every day is full of teachable moments!
I have had my daughters enrolled from kindergarten in OCA. They have done extremely well and are thriving in this environment. The education they are receiving here would not be possible from a typical brick and mortar environment because we are able to tailor the learning to them. We also include many enrichment activities such as field trips, science labs and more. My daughters are now in seventh and ninth grade, and we are grateful to have been able to school this way since it has given them an awesome education.
I chose Ohio Connections Academy (OCA) because, after five years of research, they were the only virtual school I could find in my state with a curriculum as rigorous as the private Christian School that three of my children were to be transferring from. That was very important to me. OCA has been such a tremendous blessing for my two children with disabilities that make regular classroom learning difficult and my eldest who simply "hates school." My 14 year old who, even with intervention, was only able to achieve D's and sometimes C's finished his first year at OCA with straight A's and it wasn't a dumbed down curriculum. He received amazing one-on-one support from his teachers via phone and email and sometimes they would even open LiveLesson rooms just for him to explain a difficult concept. All of our books and a computer are provided for each child. We have several field trips each year and get to meet the kid's teachers face-to-face. We also get a debit card with about $50 on it 3 times per year that is intended to help pay our high speed internet charges. Obviously that doesn't pay the entire bill but then, household don't use their internet ONLY for school.
This is my 4th year with Ohio Connections Academy. I have three girls who are now in 8th, 6th, and 4th grades. They have all excelled and grown through Connections Academy. I'm pleased to have switched from traditional homeschooling to Virtual School. The teacher involvement is exceptional. I feel like I could not do as well of a job with my children's education without the help of the teachers. If asked what my favorite part of the school is, I would say the teachers for sure. My children love the interaction they get from the live lessons and the field trips. They have made lots of friends through both. I also appreciate the ease of how things are laid out. They are always looking for ways to make the navigation easy on the students and parents. The teachers and administration have always worked hard to make everything as easy and smooth as possible. They welcome feed back and give outlets for the parents to be able to do that. It is obvious that everyone in Ohio Connections Academy really care about the students and their progress.
Ohio Connections is a fantastic merger of home school and public school. We have the flexibility to customize lessons and move at our own pace like homeschooling, but we still have the backing and support of world class teachers and curriculum. We love Connections!!
This is our first year at OCA, and I am definitely glad we made the switch. My daughter is enjoying working at her own pace, which is usually 2-3 days ahead of schedule. The best part is that she is learning without all the normal distractions that are part of the traditional schools. The teachers seem to be involved and care about the students excelling in their classes. OCA offers programs and resources that make learning fun, resulting in students that want to learn and achieve their educational goals.
We switched to OCA when my son went to 4th grade. We had so many difficulties in public school. I had been looking at OCA since he started grade K, and finally decided it was the best choice. We are now in our third year and have had the best experience. The teachers are all so caring and will go out of their way to help my son any way he needs it. The field trips are a lot of fun. Meeting all the school staff everytime is nice, they are always so friendly and welcoming. I enjoy the curriculum we get its not overly difficult and live lessons are always fun to sit in on. OCA has had such a positive impact on my son and its wonderful. We have also gotten to meet new friends and families through out the state as well. I highly recommend OCA to everyone, they go above and beyond to make school the best for every childs needs. Thank You OCA we love you.
We love Connections! Great teachers who seem to truly care about parents and their kids. Always available to help out when needed.
We are so happy with the teachers at OCA. They are very helpful and so open and friendly with the students. Our daughter has an IEP and she is getting much more one on one time than she did in a traditional public school environment. The connexus site is pretty easy to learn to use and the staff and tech support are very helpful when problems arise.
OCA Ohio Connections Academy is such a wonderful school. We chose Connections because our daughter was skating through Circleville City Schools. We wanted her to be challenged and have to work for her grades. We wanted her to know that an education is one of the most important things in life and that Connections is the best place for her to get that. If any parent is thinking about virtual school PLEASE check out Connections you will not regret it. From the equipment to the teachers and support staff we have had nothing but a wonderful school year and are looking forward to next year starting.
They withdrew my son because he fell behind. I heard that they did this to a classmate of my daughter also. They didn't want to help at all.
Our boys went here for 6 years, my regret is that I wish I would have enrolled in K -12 sooner. Ohio Connections academy does not let you work at your own pace, and if you do, they reply with a not so nice phone call or web mail. Too many portfolios to send in and too many assignments. We switched to OHVA about 2 weeks ago, and it is the best decision we made for our boys education. Will not be returning to OCALA, OHVA is so much for tech savvy and all around a better choice.
Ohio Connections Academy is a wonderfully challenging school with a great staff of caring teachers and administrators! They have a wide range of course selections, plus a learn at your own pace style.
Great school and curriculum. My family is entering its second year and I have a 9th and 10th grader in high school courses. I cannot stress upon other people how happy my family is and how dedicated my students are because of the teachers at OCA. The staff and educators go the extra mile to make sure that the children are comfortable in their own learning areas. I encourage other parents all of the time if they consider online schooling, that OCA is the only place to begin and end their search!
Great school. Have a 11th grader and 6th grader. Both were there last semester and came from failing grades to all A's and B's. Way better performance than our local public school. So glad we switched to OCA, great teachers and very helpful. Both boys really enjoy being able to work at their own pace.
Great curriculum, flexable, caring teachers and staff, a close hand in my childs learning, social network for my child and for myself, these are what Connections Academy offers. If one or more subjects in not challenging enough or too challenging it can be easily altered without having to uproot the entire class or curriculum. If my children understand a concept already they can skim over the lesson and move onto the next lesson in the same day, or if my children are not understanding the concept they can take an extra day or two going over it or getting extra help from the teacher until they do understand it without holding up the entire class or being forced to move on without understanding the material. On the social level, I was very concerned at first, but CA has quarterly all school field trips as well as Community Coordinators that organize local field trips where my children have met other children their age whom they have become great friends with just like at a reg school. And for myself a great tool is the message boards where I can get great advice from other parents, get moral support and I too have made valuable friendships. Go to a information seminar and see.
We love it. We have a 6th grader in OCA right now. I'm a SAHM, so time isn't an issue. He works or ahead or slows down. It's completely up to him. The materials are excellent. We've never had a problem.
