School Official Point of View

While test scores are only a small picture of a school's effectiveness, we are excited to announce that we hit all 10 state targets for OGT scores in grades 10 and 11 this year! Meanwhile, we continue to be defined by our impressive field experiences, with our 8th graders doing a marine biology study in Pigeon Key, FL. High schoolers will choose between 12 intersession trips or experiences in spring of 2013.

There are some teachers that really care here. Too bad there's not more of them. We as parents are required to attend info meetings before school year, confrences and meetings about field experiences. We have to sign contracts stating that we will participate in the schooling of our student and help them to understand what us excepted of them. However, getting the teachers and staff to comply with these is another thing. There seems to be no enforcement of rules on a school wide basis. Seems that some rules are only for certain students. Even when they admit that a student is a problem, they do not follow the written contracts! I have never contacted anyone at the school who hasn't passed the buck or offered excuses...never a solution.

Teachers are extremely caring, always willing to help students struggling. Very strong curriculum. Only CPS school ranked Excellent, as well as Walnut Hills.

This school is young (first graduating class in 2011) but the staff is talented, dedicated, and caring. As a long-time Montessori parent, I have been pleased by the extension of that philosophy in this junior high/high school. Academic classes are important and emphasized, but Gamble also both offers more and demands more of its students. A significant community service requirement (36 hrs/yr for junior high students, 50 hrs/yr for high schoolers) helps create in students a sense of responsibility for our world. Also, the tremendous opportunities afforded students (8th grade marine biology study in the FL Keys, HS intersessions--special intensive projects that give students REAL WORLD learning experiences), as well as the expectation that students help raise money to pay for those opportunities, help Gamble students grow into truly independent "citizens of the world." I am happy that my children are able to attend this school.
