I taught at St. Mark Lutheran School for 8 years and am saddened that the school has closed its doors. I enjoyed working with my hard working students and supportive parents. I feel that options to save the school were overlooked and that the church and its leaders never really had a vision or desire to support our school.

My children have attended St. Mark's for several years now. The class size is really small, and I would rate their educational teachings between a 6 or 7. There are very little activities extra circular activities for the children to participate, unless your children enjoy playing amongst themselves. Parent participation is very high at St. Mark's.

St. Marks offers small class sizes for individualized teaching. The principal cares about the students needs and teachers are wonderful! Computers & whiteboards are in every class, students are introduced to these tools which allow the teachers to give the students a true 21st Century teaching. I believe that St. Mark is truly preparing my child for the next level of education!

I was a student there from 1st- 8th. I left with the class of '06'. The teachers there are down to earth and are excited to prepare your children as they did me. St.Mark is wonderful

I have sent my boys to this school for a few years now and I love it. I think that a stronger Parent volunteer growth is needed but other than that this school offers kids alot. The attached church has a great pastor and a strong following. The classrooms have interactive white boards and up to date computer systems in every classroom. A growing school and excellent and dedicated teachers who go above and beyond the normal expectations. this school is definitely someplace you would want to check out for your kids. And the attached church is a friendly gathering that your whole family will enjoy.

I have a daughter in kindergarten this year (06-07). She absolutely loves coming to school. I was quite surprised to see how fast she is learning. She loves her teacher Mrs.G and her aide Mrs. Kathy. I can see Mrs. G has a special bond with all the children. Small class size is an asset to my childs education. I feel safe leaving my child at St. Mark. I am glad I chose to send my daughter to this school and I would recommend it to other parents looking for a great school to send their child.

Saint Mark Lutheran School is a valuable and productive member of the West Side community of Old Brooklyn. It is an oasis in the inner city, and a wonderful cadre of dedicated teachers staffs it. The Principal offers leadership and experience along with genuine care and concern for all of the students. The smaller class sizes offer individualized education and attention to both academics and planting the seed for life-changing faith instruction.

Both of my children attended St.Mark from K thru 8.After leaving St. Mark due to finacial reasons my children could not attend Lutheran West. They both attended a Cleveland Public High School. The teachers and principal personally told me they wish they could have more students from St. Mark. My children are doing so well in both college and high school, I feel St. Mark gave them the backround to suceed in whatever they do.

St. Mark is a wonderful school for many reasons. It is a small school with a great deal of success in its student body and faculty. The small class size gives students an opportunity to expand their knowledge and grow as an intellectual. There is a strong relationship between the faculty, which provides the students with a better sense of friendship and teamwork. The principal and teachers truly care about the growth and development of their students and want nothing but to see these children succeed.

This school greatly impacted my life. The things I've learned religiously help me make wise decisions. Everyone in this school knows each other which gives you a sense of security.

My two children attend St. Mark Lutheran in Cleveland, and have both experienced a quality education thus far. The teachers go far above and beyond the call to give each child what they need, based on individual learning abilities and interests. What they are lacking in extracurricular activities is more than made up for in the quality of the 'four r's' offered in the classroom. Overall, my husband and I are quite pleased with what St. Mark has offered and provided our children. Unfortunately, parental involvement is lacking. I feel that if more parents became involved (it takes a village...) we could make this school even greater. I find it very interesting that the more negative the rating from the parents on this site, the poorer their spelling becomes- that is very telling. It must be hard to recognize a good education if you have never received one.

My daughter has been a student at St. Mark since kindergarten. She is now in 8th grade and preparing to enter Lutheran West next year. I feel she has received a quality education from a very caring and qualified staff. The principal that is there now, is a former teacher at a Lutheran School and a member of St. Mark. Her heart is with the school and the kids and I think she is doing a great job. There are many extra-curricular activities to suit the interest of any child. I would highly recommend St. Mark!

My daughter has attended St. Mark for three years. I am very satisfied with this school. They expect a lot from their students, and this is the way children will learn to adapt to the world. Life isn't easy and school should not be either. The staff and teachers will work with you and your child if you ask for help. I am glad I chose this school for my child . Mrs. Corrina Wiemels

As a student from k-8, I do not recommend this school. While the extra curriculars, such as band and sports, it is great. But the academics are not high. Test scores are incredibly low, the school board makes rules and dress codes, then the teachers change things to fit their wants. There has not been a decent principal in 9 years. If you were to consider sending your child there, please do not consider st mark.

I went to this school for 6&7th grades. I like this school a lot. After having been to two schools previous to this school, I actualy felt I belonged in this school. I didn't want to leave this school, but my parents wanted to take me out and put me in a better school. If you want a school that goes from 6-12th grade, have very strict discipline, a dress code, and the highest proficiency test scores in the state then you should look into Horizon Science Academy. The website is www.hsas.org.

The school is very small. So you learn alot more then you would in any other schools. But the dress code is very demanding. Some parents can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe for there kids. They have to focus on the money parents will spend. Especially if your kid will only go there for one year. If you cant afford clothes, then this isnt the school for you.

The dress code needs improvement. To strict on what you can wear and what you cant. If your sending your kid there for one year you have to buy and all new wardrobe for them. The tests are really hard for my kid to understand the concept.

This school is not the top choice for your child. My child went there from k-8 only because I did not want her to attend a Cleveland public school. Some of the teachers are very poorly and underqualified. Test scores are extrememly low, and most children who come out of there dont do as well in high school, or another school, as this one is so behind! As a former student, I have struggled. Please look into this school before considering it.

School lacks a quality administration and has a high turnover in teachers. Enrollment has dropped considerably and the students who are leaving are disheartened with going to this school. It has an unhealthy learning environment and major testing scores are quite low.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
