I went to Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Cleveland about 5 years ago. Thiis school has really helped me find where I belong in todays society, as well as my future career. The teachers and staff do a great job at knowing what the students need in their educational life style. Going to this school was the best choice my family made for me. Now I am a senior in high school, wish I could be in the shoes of a middleschooler because of how much I miss that school! Kimberly Santiago
Benjamin Franklin School Cleveland Metropolitan School District School Principal is outstanding. She ensures a safe, welcoming learning environment and encourages community organizations to visit the school bringing educational and health related resources to the classrooms. There are some outstanding teachers, too, who recognize the value of hands-on science and the value of learning experiences outside of the school (e.g. Science Museums, Art Museums, etc.). Like any teaching and learning environment, Benjamin Franklin will improve with parents being more involved, supporting teachers important work as well as their own child's work. Regular teacher professional development related to content in various academic disciplines will help in the classroom with support in integrating new concepts and techniques learned. Access to 21st century technology is critical for both teachers and students to help all keep pace with others outside of the district. This is a solid academic environment and will continue to improve as long as parents, the community, teachers, administrators, and the students themselves work together to continue to achieve and take pride in their achievements.
My children finished their first year there and I was disappointed with it. I am highly involved in my children's education, attended meetings, conferences, and field trips, etc, and I was saddened about how some teachers can be....one teacher would be annoyed when I scheduled a conference due to low marks on a report card, I mean aren't parents supposed to be concerned about their children's education? Another would knit pick my daughter for every little thing, when I spoke with that teacher, she was upset at me for asking her what is going on? I mean come on! The school is over crowded, had to yell at a few "older" kids practically knocking over Kindergarteners on their way to class....the parking lot is an accident waiting to happen, parent's in a hurry zipping through the lot, while students are trying to cross the lot into school without being road kill...security there is very lax, having children do the security officers job is unexceptable!...too many fights and bullying, poor communication with parents....while the curriculum is good, it is not only what makes a good school.Think before you put your child here.
Six of my children have attended Benji for the last ten years.Over all it is fairly good, for a public school. I feel that my children are safe in the classrooms, but not in the parking lot as it is set up now. Neither child nor parent should have to walk out into the lot. The buses should pick up and let off at the northern side, but there should be a system for the walkers and those picked up by car. As it is now, it is chaotic and dangerous for both children and parents. In reviewing the sex ed course, I found it to be too much info for the younger grades and inaccurate for the older. The Traditional mother/father/child family is not treated as the norm.
Teachers & Principal are great - very caring and sincerely concerned about the education and well-being of all its kids. Because it is an inner city school it does not have a lot of the funding to do 'extra' things for the kids, e.g. field trips, etc. It would be great if a strong inner city school could be recognized for being good - especially given how many are not.
I love my sons school. The teachers are awesome and the principal is fantastic. Go Benji...
Benjamin Franklin is the BEST school in America because of it's hard-working, dedicated staff, wonderfully supportive parents, and students who work hard to achieve their best!
I highly recommend this school. My children have been attending Ben Franklin for two years. The academics are much more advanced than many other Cleveland Schools. Both principals, as well as the many teachers I have had the pleasure of working with are very dedicated to helping bring out the best in each child. I have a child that entered this school with Math difficulties; Thru the assistance of her teachers, she has excelled greatly in Math. It is now her favorite subject. Ben Franklin is an awesome school!
my daughter went to this school for three years and i'm taking her out! If yiu are lucky you'll get a good teacher such as mrs. kane or bremmer but other wise...... not to mention the state test scores are low, rooms over crowded, the teachers play favortism w/parents and students, and there isn't alot of communication with the teachers. If you are a concerned parent and want to have conferences with a teacher or principal they act annoyed. i wouldn't reccomend this school.
im in the 8th grade at benji. i love it there. its such a great school. i dont like it when other people put cleveland schools down, because there just as good. the teachers there understand whats going on and help with almost anything. the only thing i disagree with it the fact mr.combs got transfored to a different school. he was one if the BEST teachers there.
My daughter is going into the 8th grade and my little daughter into Kindergarden there I really like the school, but they should call when your child is absent just in case they are cutting and also they need sports!
benjamin franklin was a great school it is like my home. i enjoyed the teachere and there help. by shaquasia
I actually researched the schools before I placed my child here at Benji. I was very happy at first but things quickly changed. I agree with the comment from the one parent, that there are some very good teachers there & some others that are bad. I feel that there is not much communication from teacher to parent. This is one of the reason I am taking my child to this school there next year. Many classes are over crowded & this takes away from the kids & their learning. Although many issues have been addressed to the principal & teacher, it still hasn't changed.
I have 5 children at this school. The the teachers are all so nice. The older students at the school really helped my younger children at their first day of school. Thank you Cleveland, for giving my children a safe and happy school. I love Benjamin Franklin!
This school has its share of good teachers and bad. Teachers are backed in running classrooms however they want. A good teacher runs a good classroom, the bad ones run it bad. If your child is unlucky and lands a bad teacher, pray the year goes fast.
I have two kids in the school and they have been there a while now. They have both enjoyed school every year. That is the biggest test for me. Also, my son took the admissions test for St. Ignatius as a 7th grader (to practice for taking it in 8th grade.) He scored at grade level or above in every subject. Friends of his at private school did not do as well, especially in math. So I think it is clear that it is a good school. It is too bad it doesn't have Circus Club anymore; that was special and good for kids who excelled in those sports.
I have 3 adopted children which love this school, and do not miss a day. They tell their father and I that the teachers are very helpful, and give them personal time when needed. They had problems at other schools, but when they started Benjamin Franklin their grades, attitudes toward school just sky rocketed. Whenever my husband or I need to speak with someone at the school they return our calls promptly, or take time out of their day to see us. I feel that this school is a godsend, and wish their were more teachers, staff, and other personnel like the ones that I have encountered at Benjamin Franklin. Of all the horror stories I have heard of other schools. People need to examine what they do at Benjamin Franklin, and pass it along to the others!
Benji is the best school! I have three children in the school and every one of their teachers are wonderful, but so is the rest of the staff. This school has helped my son, who is in special education classes, he came to this school with very bad grades and now is maintaining a C average as well as being on Merit Roll. My daughters have done very well also. If I ever have a question or problem, they are always willing to help. They have always had a strong academics and strong rewards system for the students. I love to volunteer my time to see the academics that are offered. Also I enjoy being at the school to be involved in my children's education. This school is great! Thank you Benji for all you do!
I was very upset to read one of the parents view of Benjamin Franklin. The parent who expressed her opinion (March 2004) about how the school is run and how the classrooms are, seems to be very uneducated about the school. I wonder if she really ever has spent time in the school and worked with the teachers and students. The classroom sizes are fairly normal and if the classroom is larger, they usually will have a student teacher or an aide in the room to keep up. I have been in many schools and have volunteered regularly and Benjamin Franklin is one of the best schools I have seen. I volunteer alot and would hope this parent would come and see what this school is really about.
