There are plenty of parent opportunities at Maize Elementary. We just had open house last week and the volunteer opportunities were discussed. Anyone who says there isn't any parent involvement just doesn't want to get involved period.

The teachers are great. But the office staff could use some change. The office staff attidudes need some work. Has far as Parent involvement goes there is none.

Maize is a wonderful school who works with their community. Mrs. Williams is an excellent leader who genuinely cares for learning. The staff strives for excellence and is dedicated to the success of each and every student.

I had the privilege of teaching at Maize for 18 yrs. before my retirement. We have all of the typical things that great schools need, great students, committed teachers, involved parents, supportive community. What makes Maize special is that all of these elements consistently work hand-in-hand to provide a first-rate education for an enthusiastic student body that is curious, questioning, and willing to work hard to earn the education that they so richly deserve.

I am a parent with a foster child at Maize Elementary. I was fearful that she would be labeled. This is her 3rd year at the school, and ther teachers have been great. They have challenged her to do her best. When she first entered the school as a student, she could not read two letter words. Three years later, she is two grades above her grade level. She is great in math. She has a wonderful teacher that truly cares about her. She's always talking about Ms. Michael and making sure she completes her assignments. The teachers challenge the students, and plus the school have great ratings when compared to the state scores. Check it out and see for yourself. No need to pay for private school. I have researched the local private school. Look into that as well. Maize actually match and beat some of the scores. Traci

My child entered Maize in 5th grade after being in a private Christiann school for 5 years. I was very scared she would fall behind but to my surprise, found the curriculum at Maize much more challenging and fast paced. Not only has my child shown drastic improvement due to the personal attention the teacher has given her, but the teacher advised me within the first 2 weeks of school to have my child tested for ADD after working with her for only that short time, saying she has definite symptoms and medical treatment would most lilkely help. She has supported us and is my daughters best source of daily encouragement. The change in my daughter is like night and day! I'd asked the private school constantly if they thought my daughter had ADD and they consistently said 'No', even after having their counselor observe her -only at my insistence.

Maize is a great school. I have been impressed with the school as a whole. However, the teachers have no training on how to deal with children who have ADHD. The child usually has to go to another school where they have a special education program in place. The teachers rely on the parent to educate them about ADHD.

My son enjoys going to school and feels valued by staff and students. The academic programs are great with tutoring and gifted programs. The school offers extacurricular activities- choir, music, math clubs, chess clubs and etc. My son enjoys working with scientist from OSU that visit the classroom. His baketball coach, Mr. Jackson is a great role model that goes out of his way to inspire students to make positive choices! My daughter will start Kindergarten next year and we are excited for her to attend Maize.
