In the Columbus City Schools District, students can attend any school (called intradistrict choice) or transfer to schools in neighboring counties (interdistrict choice), as long as there is space; application deadlines vary, but some are in January. They may also attend alternative schools that focus on such subjects as language arts, math and science. The district offers gifted education services to K-12 students. It also provides special education support such as Special Olympics training.Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
