All 3 of my girls attended Deer Run. Principal Lorraine Rubadue is an outstanding leader and we so appreciated our experiences at DRE!
I have two boys that attended school at Deer Run...4th and 5th grade. One of the two has an IEP with special needs. I will say without hesitation that the teachers and staff at this school really do care about what they are doing and provided an outstanding education.
Very good school.. Teachers are good.
Excellent school, phenomenal faculty. We have 2 children there now and one more who will start there next year. The homeroom teachers are very impressive -- they are effective at differentiating and challenging each student, which we value immensely. The specials teachers (art, PE, music, library) are among the best we have ever seen! The Enrichment teacher is amazing, we just need to clone her.
Arts programs available and encouraged, not much in the way of school related sports, but this available through city. Many after school clubs available. Much of what is available to kids would not be possible without all the parent involvement. Seems that a great deal of time/money is spent on fun activities for the kids. Many parents desire more to be invested in updating academic resources. The district/school needs to be more open to ideas and suggestions for addition of new programs for reading, math and science. Enrichment at this school is excellent. Programs and inclusion of kids with disabilities is excellent. I agree with previous parent comment that if your child falls in-between gifted and disabled, that they may get 'lost' or 'overlooked'.
Personalized curriculum for each student at so many levels. Multi-age option is wonderful, and the teachers are exceptional. PTO is strong, and support many additional grants and fun programs for the kids, such as COSI. Have special learning needs? This school is for you! Resource room and inclusion well blended in whatever way is best for your child. I had two children in this school, one with special needs, and couldn't have been happier.
Overcrowded, some good teachers, some not: It seems that if you are gifted you get attention, or if you are a behavioral problem, you get attention. Those in between get missed on some potential.
