I have sent 3 children to Northmor with one requiring an IEP. The entire teaching staff ensured that any special needs were accomodated for. Overall I am completely satisfied with the education they received. One has completed a 4 year degree in 3-1/2 years graduating with honors and another is consistently on the deans list at college and is still a full time student. I have had my kids in schools in California and Illinois and I think Northmor Local Schools gave a more personalized education to my children. The brand new school buildings look great. There have been changes to staff at all the schools in the past 10 years but during the time of my kids tenure I am completely satisfied.
While there are several aspects of Iberia Elementary I am pleased with such as comunication with my sons teacher is wonderful and has been a perfect fit this year. Also the intervention specialist, speech, OT, and PT have done wonderful jobs in working with my son and with me. When there are any major problems there is usually a common factor and that is the principal is usually involved. She does not know how to pick her battles, tries to treat my child like every other child and wants him to fit in a perfecct little mold that he will never fit. My son has PDD (sensory related) and ADHD he is not going to fit into a perfect littel mold. He is 7 and in first grade and has told me he does not like his principal. That is very sad. You definitly can not be afraid to stand your ground when dealing with her,
I am an Iberia parent & notice that Iberia does take initiatives to build up students' self-esteem. There are mediators @ recess and the counselor also assists in activities. When I get any kind of remark from a teacher I immediately address with my either of my 2 children. I don't automatically side with my children but try to find out what's going on. Normally my student isn't following directions! There are improvements that can always be by teachers/schools; however it is up to us, the parents to communicate WITH teachers and to work WITH our kids to ensure that they are learning and feel secure. My children compare what they're learning with kids in other districts and Northmor is right on track, even up there with some 'better known' area schools! I encourage you to work WITH not AGAINST your school! It only benefits your own kids to get involved!
We are very unhappy with Iberia Elementary we have had problems since kindergarten and learning what they should. They tend to stomp on little kids self esteems starting at such a young age instead of building them up. Reading not sure how they do reading or what they use. I hae saved my sons papers from the time he has started this year nothing positive written on the good papers but negative ones are all marked up with comments. Negative letters sent home weekly about the same thing which is under there control not ours. Behaviour he has been good to excellent nothing good said about that. Princpal involved but does not follow through on certain things but will basically agree there is a problem that needs to be ammended! Not impressed at all!Very upset about it all !
I am a gradute of Northmor their Math and english was so far below standards that I struggled in College my first year. This is not the place to send a student with a learning disablity they just do not carewould never send my cjild to this school.
Northmor is a wonderful school! The teachers really care about the students. They expect the best out of them. Northmor is a very safe school, violence is not an issue at all. Even though the school is small and in the middle of a cornfield, its a wonderful high school! I couldnt ask for better!
I attendedthis school for about 5 months and I came to discover that they expect a lot out of there schools and their children that attend and I really liked that.
I am a Northmor grad who is now attending Law School. I stumbled upon this website, and was deeply saddened to see that Northmor had such a low ranking. They base this ranking completely on test scores, but they neglect to add in such things as community, spirit, and safety that Northmor is known for. One is a Golden Knight for life, Northmor is a great place to send your children. They will be accepted into a wholesome community, treated with respect by their peers, and will develop relationships that last lifetimes. The teachers will literally bend over backwards to help their students. Nearly all of them are a coach/advisor to some group or another. At Northmor, everyone is involved.
Northmor is a good place to learn minus a few of the teachers. They are what drives the ogt scores down. In some classes the workload is unimaginable. the only good things here at Northmor are the sports. we have good leadership in the coaches and great sportsmanship with the players.
this school has the most amount of money that I have ever been to. Its selection of classes and its wonderful lunches make me smile when i come in in the morning.
