The school does have great Christan small town values but I am afraid to say education is not one of them. They will brag about the accomplishments of a few but many are allowed to pass to the next grade and graduate under the radar unprepared for any type of College setting. A graduate of the recent class of 2010 was allowed to graduate with a failing average. Parents have removed students from the school and a better academic setting in local public schools

My son is in his 5th year at OVCS and loves it. I have worked in various capacities and have observed first-hand the dedication and love of the staff. I have also previously taught in other Christian schools and can say that this one ranks number one in my opinion. We now have smart boards in almost every classroom, great computers, and the best curriculum available, to name a few of the benefits. If you are considering Christian education, please call and ask to take a tour. I'm sure you'll be impressed!

Students at this school generally score higher on standardized tests and the atmosphere is much better than other local schools. The 'strict' code is good to give students a sense of modesty and general decency. I would say this school is a much better choice than other schools in the area because the faculty does actually care about the students, even if some aren't the best of teachers, and drug use and teen sexuality is prevented. I will concede that they don't well motivate students to continue into college and do not teach science that goes against their beliefs, but it is certainly the best elementary and junior-high school in the area. -----former student

In 1990 we sold our home and moved closer to the school for our 5 year old son. He graduated in 2003 and our daughter will graduate in 2010. We have experienced 100% satisfaction with the school, from the administrator to the teaching staff. Our son scored very high on his ACT and was accepted into a good pharmacy school, in part to his education at OVCS. With the exception of a football program, OVCS offers all the extra curricular activities a child could expect from other schools in our area. I would highly recommend the school to parents of any age student.

The OVCS faculty has a good heart, but some are not the best teachers and others simply cannot do as much as they want in the classroom because of too many slow or lazy students. Going to college is not necessarily an expectation of graduates. Those that do attend college typically choose Ohio University, Marshall University, Bob Jones University, Cedarville University, Pensacola Christian College, or the University of Rio Grande (basically a community college). It is possible to do well here-- the school has produced a few National Merit Finalists-- but the students are largely unmotivated and there are no advanced or AP classes available. On top of this, the strict dress code and otherwise legalistic atmosphere contributes to the already-lacking school experience. OVCS has hope, but it will need separation from a fundie church, parent activism, and faculty commitment to change. Not the school for everyone, though not the worst.
