I graduated from Granville decades before standardized testing and 'no child left behind' has forced public schools to "teach testing". Granville was at the top of ladder then too. I consider myself fortunate to have benefited from that commitment to excellence. I now reluctantly live in an area that private school is the only choice for a decent education. Be grateful for what you are providing for your children!

I totally agree with the person who said they are obsessed with standardized tests. Sometimes the kids take practice tests during lunch. Before the kids take the OAT, the principal will come to the classroom and tell the children to eat a good breakfast and not to stress. All this test taking is taking away the joy and fun of Elementary school. All children should enjoy school at this age. But at GES I don't think very many kids are truly happy. Although the test scores are amazing. Please keep in mind how hard the children work and all the give up in order to get these scores.

This school is obsessed with standardized test--terra nova, OAT--as well as regular section tests in classrooms. My kid's 3rd-grade class is having 4 tests this week, and this is considered normal and necessary in this school. My kid now hates school. Frankly, because of such test-oriented learning environment at GES, I am seriously seeking an alternative other than public school for my kid. I used to be fascinated by those high test scores that GES students achieved, and now I finally realized how much students have gone through (under constant pressure of testing, suppressing of creativity and imagination, deprived individuality to meet the goal, and more) to be able to achieve such glory. I would not sacrifice my kid's joy of learning during these precious early years for a superficial report card.
