As long as the teachers and staff do not respect the parents, they cannot be effective. Most of the parents in the community I have talked to feel bullied by the leadership in the school district in some way. many of the teachers ignore students when they have questions. Some of the teachers are hostile during parent and teacher conferences. They claim that students who ask questions are trouble makers. They do not seem have mastery of the subjects they teach and must be unable to answer the students questions.
It really depends on the teacher. Some teachers act like their class is the only class the students are taking. Some nights my child has had 4 or more hours of homework, not including longer term projects.
The district and building staff are over controlling and treat students with disregard. If a student so much as lays their head down on their desk, even if their work is done, they might suspend them. The principal and vice principal cannot verbalize the outcome they are trying to achieve with their discipline choices and are very subjective. They have created an atmosphere of rewarding accusations whether they are true or not.
The staff district wide discriminate against low income people. They also push religion while being judgmental. They prey upon children with single mothers, kids who are in foster care and those adopted through the foster care system. They also encourage special needs student to not go to college even when they know the special needs kids could qualify for grants and scholarships due to their special needs. They encourage all the above to chose blue collar ambitions and try to talk them out of anything else.
