We moved to Hilliard 20 years ago, and I am a proud community member. After graduating from Hilliard Davidson, my oldest child graduated cum laude from college, my second summa cum laude, and my youngest is in his third successful year of college. I credit the administration and caring teachers at HDHS for helping them to be well-prepared for the rigor of college coursework. The school offers outstanding opportunities inside the class and out, for a well-rounded education. My kids continue to visit the school and seek out teachers and counselors that meant so much to them, and whenever I run into staff members myself, they always remember my name and ask about the kids - amazing considering the size of the school!

I am graduating my third student from Hilliard Davidson. The teaching staff is supportive and excellent, the variety of classes to choose from amazes me, and the principal is just wonderful.

I am getting ready to graduate my third child from Davidson, and it just gets better and better. My college children have been very successful, and I believe it is due to being so well-prepared by the outstanding teachers, administrators and counselors at Davidson.

HDHS is a wonderful learning environment. Teachers, counselors and administrtors are on top of every situation. In the words of my freshman son, 'Mom, they actually WANT us to succeed!' He loves the blue team and Jeff Cadwallader is a caring, well-informed counselor, who really knows how to guide kids to the right choices. My only complaint is that the food choices are not the best. I'd like to see fewer donuts, poptarts and junk like that off the counter. The Marching Band -- and music program in general - is top drawer. Leaders Handshue, Ley and Kosman really care about kids and help them develop not just good music skills, but great self-esteem, too!

Leadership is A+ at Davidson. Principals John Bandow and Cindi Goldhaber are the backbone. Teachers Denise Clapp, Carol Bundy, Robin Breneman and Diana Evans Vance are all great contributers to environment conducive to a great learning.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Ohio used the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) to test students in grade 10 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. State averages displayed on public school profiles include public schools only. State averages displayed on private school profiles include private schools only. The OGT is a high school graduation requirement for public schools and chartered private schools. The OGT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Ohio. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

About the tests

Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.

About the tests

In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.
