administration needs to definitely improve. classes appear to be overcrowded. facilities seem to be well maintained.
Too much on sports not enought on education.
I have no idea what prompted the previous poster, but I could not disagree more. The interactions I have had with the staff have been good - respect and interest in what I have to say. SHS is continually improving its programs and activities. The quality of its curriculum cannot be disputed: AP classes, post secondary classes, etc. These are not the type of classes that are offered at horrible schools. Is any school perfect? No, but Springfield sets the standard and expectations high for its students, staff and parents. This is a diverse community in all ways - socially and economically, and SHS rises to the challenges that diversity entails each and every day.
The first word that comes to mind when I think of Springfield Schools is 'community'. From elementary, middle school, to high school - the staff, students, parents, families, are one community. The willingness to lend a helping hand and get involved with our children s education is remarkable. The athletics, performance arts, alumni activities are second to none. Springfield Schools is a great place to feel part of a family! I look forward to having my children continue their educational path in this wonderful school system!
I looked at the other reviews, and it would seem the school quality has tanked considerably since then. The staff is uncaring, rude, and badmouths students behind their backs and in earshot of other students. The on-site police officers are unfair and prejudiced. The dress code, which was desperately needed, is not enforced. There are other issues I will not get into here, but the end result is a negative school that has spawned a horrible sense of apathy and negativity among its students.
I couldn't have asked for a more experienced and caring staff and faculty to help guide me through my four years. I was exposed to many fields of study and taught good values that have helped me thrive in college. I abesolutely loved my high school journey!
As a student, I recieved an excellent eduction that was improved through honors classes and caring teachers. I am very prepared for the college classes I am now in.
Our principal, Mike O'Shea is the best principal I have ever worked with in my children's 12 years of schooling. He attends every extracurricular activity that he possibly can which shows these students that he cares! The school system is very dedicated to giving our kids the resources they need to succeed!
