Fairmont is really a great school despite what people on here have to say about it. The teachers may not all be perfect, but who is? And of course there are going to be students who don't like it...we're talking about high school students here. Good luck finding a school where every single student likes it. I went to Fairmont for 4 years, and looking back, I would say that my teachers and administrators cared about my education. I learned a lot there and was offered many great opportunities. Fairmont offeres a wide array of classes for all interests and abilities and the extracurricular programs are amazing. Fairmont high school is a great place to go to school and I would recommend it to anyone.

I had two children who both graduated from Fairmont. One was college prep and was able to take honors classes that transferred to 8 credits in college; the other was vocational and completed the Alternative school option. Kettering was able to meet both of their very diverse needs. The teachers and administration was awesome to work with and made sure that my children received what they needed as individuals.

I attended Fairmont for almost two years. I hated it. The teachers that I had were awful and didn't even know what they were talking about. I only had a few good teachers that I liked. Most of the teachers don't even help out the students or find a different way to explain something they aren't understanding. It is way too over-crowded and the first few weeks of lunch, you don't even have enough time to eat since it's chaos. I couldn't stand Fairmont, at all. It's filled with drama, unqualified teachers, and a terrible school system. I wouldn't recommend Fairmont. There are some very good teachers, but most of them aren't.

Fairmont is a great place. The teachers are great and very helpful. After school sports and activities keep the students busy and allows them a safe place to hang out with friends.

We have three children who all graduated from Fairmont, were accepted into excellent universities, and have graduated and moved on to fulfilling careers and or graduate work. While at Fairmont they had excellent teachers in an excellent curriculum and had the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities - sports, music, student gov't and clubs

Fairmont High School is a great public high school, which offers programs for all types of students. I am the parent of two children who graduated from Fairmont High School recently. My older is now doing well in Boston College Law School. My younger got a considerable scholarship so that she could attend Washington University in St. Louis. She was accepted as a college freshman into their Graduate School for Social Work, also, the #1 Social Work graduate program in the US. Both of my children participated in the numerous extracurricular activities at Fairmont. They received a quality education from wonderful,, intelligent, caring teachers, who still keep in touch with them.

Kettering Fairmont HS provided wonderful opportunities for my two oldest children and my youngest, a current junior is involved in the International Baccalaureate program, AP classes, school plays, and he competes on a great tennis team. I can't say enough about FHS! The staff cares, and the teachers will do whatever it takes to help your child succeed academically.

I am pleased with Fairmont now that my students are at that grade level. They certainly let it be known this is not a school district based exclusively on sports but emphasizing the Performing Arts and International Baccalaureate programs as well.

While I'm a firm believer KFHS is probably better than SOME area schools, it is not superb. But then neither are very many others. I am disappointed with the lack of involvement by many teachers. The complaint that parents don't get involved is overstated, because they only want your involvement when it benefits them as a school. I have always been invovled in KCS from elementary level and remained involved in my chid's education. However, as the parent of a struggling student, in danger of not graduating, I feel it's irresponsible to blame the student and the parent instead of instituting a helpful program for 'at risk' students who do not fall into the typical socioeconomic/demographic stereotypes. (struggling students w/no discipline issues from supportive homes)

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Ohio used the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) to test students in grade 10 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. State averages displayed on public school profiles include public schools only. State averages displayed on private school profiles include private schools only. The OGT is a high school graduation requirement for public schools and chartered private schools. The OGT is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Ohio. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

About the tests

Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.

About the tests

In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.
