4th grade on down has been a wonderful experience at SMOY. 5th thru 8th grade has a handful of teachers that have been complained about for years and are continuously being rehired. I am considering taking my children out.
I have seen some wonderful changes at this school. I'm very happy and grateful for the teachers. The school is a warm place where are kids are always looking forward to go. I also have to say that technologically speaking, it's very up to date. It's amazing how much my little one knows already about computers. Also the teamwork they learn through all the sports played in the school is great. I recommend this school.
This school is the best school out there. The teachers are awesome and the administration is nice. Loved it and will do it again with my youngest. I would understand if I'm the only one saying that this school is great, but I'm not. People really love this school. No changes please!
Our experience has been similar to the prior review. Teachers are good. Administration is a bit rude and inflexible with working parents. Our child left her lunch the first week of school at the daycare. Nervous about having to ride two buses to get to school, he left his lunchbox behind. Instead of calling one of us at work, when we got home (after work) we had a nasty message from school admin because she thought we forgot to send her with a packed lunch. It's just not a very welcoming feeling for working parents. We've had a few other incedents like that. Again, teachers are very good and we're content with the academic program, but we plan to move our child to public school for a more diverse and welcoming environment. Schools need to be welcoming to kids and parents. SMOY made us feel like we don't belong.
Unfortunately the administration is running this school into the ground. The teachers in grades k-4 are awesome. The curriculum is great if your child is a little more advanced and unfortunately they do not offer much when it comes to those kids that might need a little extra help in a certain area. Our kids have been there for the last 6 years, next year we are switching them to public school. Hopefully if St. Margaret's gets a new priest, he will understand the importance of being a little more involved in the school's activities and will be encouraged to seek new administration.
