I like Tuslaw because of it being a smaller school. The teachers are able to spend more one one with the students. It's also a newer bulding and hsa one awards for it's design.
Tuslaw is a very good school system. Good student to teacher numbers. Newer high school, soon to be a new grade school.
We recently moved to the Tuslaw district from a neighboring district and I can't say enough good things about this school system. The Superintendent is always at the school events (even elementary school plays!) and the teachers really go above and beyond striving to help children learn. From what I've observed, the students respond to this in a positive way, feeling like someone really cares for them and wants to see them succeed. That's the first step in teaching a child, inspiring them. The fact that they offer such a variety of classes and opportunities for their student body for being a 'small town' district is wonderful! This truly is a great school and community.
This is my first year at Tuslaw, moving from Massillon city schools and I love it. The kids are much nicer and have much more respect for both students and teachers. The teachers are great and very understanding. I will recommend this school to anyone in the near-by area.
Tuslaw was an overall good experience. The class that I graduated from has had many success stories with numerous students excelling in college and obtaining advanced degrees. Tuslaw prepares students for college in a precise manner. My biggest complaint is there was a lot of politics within the school district. Post secondary was never revealed to me until it was too late, and I feel that it was only offered to a 'select' group of individuals. The teachers were all knowledgeable and cared a great deal. I would have no problem recommending this school to people that wish for their child to attend a rural school. I think that education is what people make of it. The resources and knowledge is there, but it is up to the students and parents to take full advantage of it.
Wonderful school! My daughter loves it and is involved in alot of activities. She plays volleyball, track and is a cheerleader. The quality of the the academics is great and her 8th grade math teacher has been very helpful giving her extra assistance whenever needed! Her coaches are wonderful in all her sports!
If you are looking for a school that prepares a student for the 'real world', don't go to Tuslaw. You will be sheltered from different cultures and college will be somewhat of a shocking social experience after attending the small world of Tuslaw. The student body is mostly Appalachian/blue collar. This will put your child at a disadvantage in college when they have to interact with people who are NOT from this background. Challenge your child...send them to a bigger public school or private high school. There is far more to a high school besides scoring 'excellent' on a state-mandated test. There are some good teachers at Tuslaw, but the overall district package is average at best.
I am a former student and I am disappointed that my children won't be able to attend this school. I was always so amazed at how many different sports teams, clubs, and music groups that students were involved in. It seemed like individual students were involved in something every season of the year. I never had a dull moment and I rarely ever went directly home from school. I always had a practice or meeting for a different group. As I've moved on through life, some people have thought the rural nature of the district to be a weakness. I believe that it is really what makes the district great.
Tuslaw is not just a school for athletes, acedemics, or socialites. It is a school that allows all if its students to make the experience unique to themselves. I am a former student and I was able to actively participate in all aspects of the school, being sports, acedemics or social circles. The teachers put in alot of extra hours making sure materials were understood before moving on. It was truly a 'small rural' feeling which insprired myself and other former classmates to better ourselves and dream for the future. My children probably won't have the opportunity to go to Tuslaw but the schools that they will attend will have to provide the same standard that Tuslaw has been for the past 40+ years.
I am also a not a parent, but a current student at Tuslaw. I have to say that I absolutely love this school and everything about it! It is a small school and everybody here, students and teachers alike, are very nice. All of the teachers are more than willing to stay after and come early to school to help students with their troubles. The only thing I can complain about is that there are not many AP courses for students to take, although we do offer post-secondary options. I am in the band and our music program has room for improvement but it is constantly on a rise. The new facilities also give everybody here a sense of pride and they make learning easier. I highly reccomend Tuslaw Schools for anybody.
