My daughter's elementary experience at Northwest Elementary has provided her with an exceptional learning environment full of exciting opportunities. The teachers that she had follow the Ohio Academic Content Standards and my daughter is scoring above her proficiency expectation for the grade level. Over the past several years, my daughter has enjoyed reading many books including classroom novels that have her to expand her interest to explore different types of literature. If you are looking for a compassionate teaching staff that will support your child's learning, please put this school at the top of your list!

I used to send my child to this school but had to take him out. The teachers and all were great but the school is full of mold and it was making my child so sick. I was spending 220.00 on inhalers and other medication. Now that he is attending Washington Nile school he is having no problems never sick and the inhalers are not needed any more. I figured all this out when he was on Christmas break he would get better then as soon as he went back to school was sick again. So if you have allergys pick another school. The school is aware this problem exits but are not willing to talk about it.

Northwest Elementary has a good school spirit that tries to make the kids responsible for their own actions and learning. They seem to have a unified disciplinary plan in effect and have a sense of school cohesiveness-students and teachers seem to know what is expected of them. The students and staff appear to be very friendly and the staff seems to be genuinely concerned about my son. We have enjoyed our involvement with the school thus far.

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Ohio used the Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and in grades 5 and 8 in science. The OAA is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Ohio. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.

About the tests

In 2010-2011, the Ohio Department of Education used the Value-Added Measure to show how much growth students made on the Ohio Achievement Test since the last school year. The state expects that student test scores will show an average year's worth of growth compared to test scores from the previous year. Ohio's Value-Added Measure is not the same as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), a federal measure which uses different criteria.

About the tests

Ohio uses the Performance Index to provide an overall indication of how well students perform on its standardized tests each year. The Performance Index scores are based upon how well each student does on all tested subjects in grades 3 through 8 and 10. Schools and districts earn anywhere from 1.2 points for each student scoring at the advanced level to zero points for each untested student. The Performance Index ranges between 0 and 120, with 100 as the statewide goal for all students.
