I attend Evergreen High School, and I have gone to the district ever since Kindergarten. Ever since then, the quality of the district has been degrading. Teachers are being cut to consider sports, taking away many options that deprive students. At one time, there was a large selection of Foreign Language classes, atleast three or four different ones. In recent years, all of the teachers were cut, due to levies failing to pass, and poor management overall. The bus system is also a major flaw--with every student riding the same bus system. This puts 5-year-olds on the same bus as Seniors. The busses are so packed that it's difficult to accomodate the younger children, which means putting up to four people in a seat sometimes; dangerous, but, there isn't any other option. The teachers, however, are the best aspect of the district, better than most in the area.
I have four children in the Evergreen school system. The teachers they have had are personable and very good at what they do. They work hard with the kids and make them feel like family. The superintendent seems to have no concern for the children or their welfare. He runs the school like a business cutting corners at our children's expenses. Right now all our children k-12 ride the same bus. Some 5 year olds get on the bus at 6 a.m and there are many children who have to stay after to ride late busses because we don't have enough busses to transport everyone at the same time. Some of these children don't get home until after 5 at night when school gets out at 2:15. Our school board voted to keep the superintendent one more year so we don't have much of a chance. The tax payers have no voice here.
The district needs to reduce the number of assistant sports coaches to help balance the budget. My child's education needs to come first--stop cutting teachers.
I really loved my social studies teachers-they are all quite excellent. The majority of the teachers definitely know what they are doing. And it is small so everyone knows everyone so i always felt quite comfortable speaking up in class.
This school system is ran very poorly by the Superintendant. He is more concerned about sports than he is the education and safety of the children in this district.
